Newk's Coming to Midtown

Newk's Eatery opening in midtown.

Jackson, Mississippi-based Newk's Eatery is opening another metro location, this time at Shops at Metropolis on Peachtree in midtown.  The casual eatery is replacing the shuttered roughly 4300 square foot Yes Home, which closed in 2011.

Newk's Eatery has three locations open in Georgia, in Lawrenceville, Brookhaven and Newnan.  I broke news last month of a fourth location they have planned for The Village at Druid Hills.  The restaurant chain was started by the founders of McAlister's Deli and offers a menu similar to Panera Bread, at slightly higher prices.   Additionally, Newk's offers pizza, making their menu more diverse than others in the same segment.

I'm told plans call for the restaurant to open late spring.  I expect this may be a bit optimistic given the space is going from retail to restaurant, but we shall see.

Are you excited for this addition to midtown?

Does everything have to open in Midtown? People actually work downtown as well, the area south of North Avenue, down to Five Points. Very few decent lunch options, unless you count the food court at Peachtree Center, which I sure don't. The few decent spots, like Corner Bakery, are always slammed.

People also get robbed and shot in Downtown. They do in Midtown too, but far less frequently

What? There are lots of lunch options downtown! Broad Street is great!

Midtown just offers more hours of service. Downtown shuts down after 5pm most days. Midtown is open 7 days a week.

Check the news. Lately, more people seem to be getting robbed or shot in Midtown than downtown.
