Freddy's Readies Itself For Atlanta Expansion

A new chain of custard and burgers is coming to Georgia.

Wichita, Kansas-based Freddy's Frozen Custard & Steakburgers is preparing to open the first of what could be many Atlanta area locations.  Freddy's began in 2002 and started franchising in late 2004.  Today the chain has over 100 locations in 17 states with an additional eight states listed as coming soon.

The first Atlanta area location will open in South Point, a retail center in McDonough, anchored by one of the  most successful J.C. Penney stores in the region.  The new Freddy's is currently underway in a previously undeveloped outparcel of the center.  A new Rooms To Go is also being built adjacent to the eatery.  South Point is located on Georgia Highway 20 in Henry county and opened in 2008.

Freddy's features a menu similar to that of Steak 'n Shake. Steak 'n Shake dates back to 1934 when the first location opened in Normal, Illinois.  Today, the company is based in Indianapolis, Indiana and has over 500 Steak 'n Shake restaurants in 22 states.  Georgia is currently home to about 30 Steak 'n Shake restaurants but more are reportedly in the works.

Ben Carter Jr., the son of real estate icon Ben Carter, has the franchise rights for Steak 'n Shake in a number of North and South Carolina territories as well as eastern Georgia. Carter's company, Carolina SNS, LLC, has one location open at the Tanger Outlets in north Charleston, but future development, reportedly in Columbia, Myrtle Beach and Eastern Georgia, may be delayed due to a recent legal troubles.

Why do you have two whole paragraphs about Steak & Shake? The history of that company and local franchising has not got anything to do with Freddy's. Are you just trying to fill space or show that you have info?

The obvious answer would be that they are very similar restaurants that happen to be the only two I have ever heard use the term steakburger. It is very helpful in my opinion to know what direct competition a company will face and in this case anyone can see the similarities.
