PNC Bank Planning Big Branch in Brookhaven

PNC Bank looks to build in Brookhaven.

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania-based PNC Bank is looking to build a new branch on Peachtree Road in Brookhaven.  The new PNC Bank branch would be two levels and be built in place of a shuttered Shell gas station just south of TOWN Brookhaven.

Earlier this year, Chase opened a new location on Roswell Road in Sandy Springs in place of a shuttered Exxon gas station.    A planned Chase Bank on the site of the former Hastings on Peachtree Road in Brookhaven is likely dead with no word on its plans in over two years.

Both PNC and Chicago-based Chase Bank have been opening new branches all over town as they fight for market share with banks like SunTrust and Wells Fargo.  Wells Fargo got its sizeable Atlanta area market share via its 2008 acquisition of Wachovia.

PNC purchased the Atlanta operations of Michigan-based Flagstar Bank and all of Raleigh-based RBC Bank USA in 2012.  The two acquisitions  allowed the Pittsburgh bank to go from zero representation in Atlanta to what some say is now the 7th largest-bank in metro Atlanta, ranked by deposits.

PNC is reportedly also interested in replacing the Wendy's on Peachtree Road in Buckhead with a new branch.

PNC is only occupying a small portion of the building so it will not be a "big branch"

Gotta say - I am pretty shocked with the development of new bank branches. Figured these are going the way of the dinosaur. And the Chase location on Piedmont is tacky. Looks like a night club.
