[SMOKIN!] Signage Up For Ford's BBQ on Main Street in Tucker

The owners of Downtown Tucker's The Local No. 7 have now confirmed the location of their next venture.  Ford's BBQ, which made its debut at this past fall's Taste of Tucker, will open at 2331 Main Street, across the street from Local No. 7 at 2316 Main Street.   "Coming Soon" signage announcing the upcoming venture recently went up with sources indicating the hope is to have the restaurant open before the end of the year.

The 1,716 square foot space was for many years home to Chris's Main Street Barber Shop, but has in more recent years sat vacant.

An outdated property listing from real estate website LoopNet indicates the building was built in 1902 [DeKalb County tax records say the building was constructed in 1935.] and previously operated as a barbershop and a shoe store. The space, which the listing indicates was most recently renovated in 2011, features pine floors, exposed beam ceilings and exposed brick walls, giving it what the listing refers to as a NY Loft like feel.
James Maggard, who along with business partners, own both Local No. 7 and Ford's, previously operated another Main Street eatery, M572, adjacent to Local No. 7.  The restaurant opened in 2015 and closed in 2017.  Peruvian food truck turned restaurant Freakin Incan opened in place of M572 in late 2017.  The Tucker location was the concept's second, joining an existing location in Roswell.

On February 14, Maggard registered both Ford's BBQ, LLC and Ford's Holding Company, LLC, a separate holding company, with the Georgia Secretary of State's office.

Maggard and his partners also own The Stratford Pub in Avondale Estates, which debuted in early 2018 in place of Palookaville Fine Foods, a business they had purchased and ran before the conversion.  The group also owns Matador Cantina on Mead Road in Decatur.
The addition of another barbecue option in Tucker will bring a little competition to The Greater Good Barbecue, which opened during the summer of 2012 and is located less than a mile away at 4431 Hugh Howell Road.

Sources close to Ford's indicate that while the original intention was to be open last fall, the new plan is to be open by this fall.

Are you excited for the addition of another barbecue option in Tucker?  What is your favorite Tucker area restaurant?  What other types of businesses would you like to see open on Main Street?

The Greater Good is full on Sundays after church. Although the Tucker location is not as good as the Roswell Road location, it's still the best in the area. But there is no other BBQ in the area. So another restaurant could do well.

Old Hickory House?

I live in Tucker but go to City BBQ in Decatur, which I prefer even to Community Q. Greater Good is "okay" but nothing special. I would love it if this new place were any good, but the fact that it is "the latest concept" from these restaurateurs does not inspire confidence. BBQ is like pizza: anyone can do it, but few do it really well.

As a fan of local 7, I'm looking forward to another delicious addition to main street!

Looking forward to it. Greater Good is good, better than Old Hickory House. I am glad something like this will occupy a vacant space on Main St. to complement the other spots. Have had the pulled pork that Local 7 has on some menu items and it is quite tasty, so they know what they’re doing.

No idea how that place is still in business. I never saw more than 3 other tables occupied when I used to go there. I respect its history but the food is not good.

"previously operated as a barbershop and a shoe store." - This location was a Roly Poly + Coffee shop. The barbershop was up the road where Corner Cup is currently located.

There was more than on barber shop on Main. This is not the Roly Poly, but closer to Village Burger

Older than any of these businesses...and owned by a Tucker native since 2005....The Tucker Fountain holds a City of Tucker business license in the Smoke Rise community of Stone Mountain.Serving BBQ beef, pork, chicken, ribs and sausage they have broadened their American fare menu including juicy burgers, fries and gourmet Sabrett hotdogs. For this article to be accurate and informative you would want to include The Fountain.
