[Mazel Tov!] The General Muir to Drop Anchor in Sandy Springs For Second Restaurant

The owners of The General Muir plan to open a second location of their popular Jewish-style deli early next year at City Springs in Sandy Springs.  The restaurant, to be located along Johnson Ferry Road, will occupy a 3,118 square foot space, about half the size of the group's original outpost at Emory Point.  The Sandy Springs restaurant, which will also have a good size patio, is actually only slightly smaller in size than the Emory Point outpost, when you consider that about 2,000 square feet of the roughly 5,900 square foot restaurant is home to TGM Bread, which will not have a presence at City Springs.

ToNeTo Atlanta first got wind of the plans for The General Muir at City Springs late last year, but attempts to obtain confirmation from either the restaurant group or Selig Enterprises, the development's landlord, were unsuccessful.  The restaurant confirmed news of their planned opening earlier today in an official release.
"Since we opened The General Muir at Emory Point in 2013, one of the most common requests we have had is that we open a location in Sandy Springs,” Ginsberg said in a prepared statement.
The General Muir gets its name from the U.S. refugee transport ship that brought co-owner Jennifer Johnson’s mother and grandparents—Holocaust survivors—to New York following World War II.  The General Muir at Emory Point is seen by many as the single most successful restaurant or retailer in the development.

The General Muir’s menu features many classic deli items such as a corned beef Reuben, pastrami sandwich and a burger stack, as well as popular breakfast fare such as bagels, omelettes and pecan crusted french toast, among other offerings.

The expansion is the latest venture for Chef Todd Ginsberg, Shelley Sweet and husband & wife Jennifer and Ben Johnson, who are also partners in The General Muir and TGM Bread at Emory Point, Fred’s Meat & Bread and Yalla at Krog Street Market, The Canteen at Tech Square and the newly opened Wood’s Chapel BBQ in Summerhill. Sweet and the Johnsons are also partners in West Egg Café in West Midtown.

The partners also revealed a new name for their restaurant group, Rye Restaurants, a nod to the “common thread” of bread at all of their eateries.

The General Muir, which will be open for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and weekend brunch, will provide some competition for established and nearby Sandy Springs eatery Breadwinner Cafe, which itself plans to open a second location in Dunwoody later this October.  A few miles south, in Chastain Park, another popular Jewish-style deli, Goldberg's, has held court for decades and has many loyal patrons.  Also, as ToNeTo Atlanta was first to report in May, Denver's Snooze: an AM Eatery, is also opening in the area, with plans to debut early next year at Gateway Sandy Springs along Roswell Road in south Sandy Springs.

Back at City Springs, General Muir will join several other restaurants already open in the mixed-use development including The Select from the owners of Paces & Vine, Flower Child, from the creators of True Food Kitchen and now owned by The Cheesecake Factory, and Nam Kitchen from Alex Kinjo of MF Sushi and Cafe Vendome.

I wonder if they show the Ghost and Mrs Muir in the TV at the bar? I love that show! And it had the boss from Knight Rider! Great shows!
