[EXCLUSIVE] Sixty Vines and Whiskey Cake Restaurants Coming to Perimeter Mall

ToNeTo Atlanta has confirmed that Texas-based Front Burner Restaurants plans to bring two of its upscale, full service restaurants to metro Atlanta in 2020. The restaurants, Sixty Vines and Whiskey Cake, are planned for Perimeter Mall in Dunwoody.  Sixty Vines, a wine bar and restaurant, will occupy an as yet unbuilt structure on an outparcel near the intersection of Perimeter Center West and Ashford Dunwoody Road, while Whiskey Cake, an American kitchen & bar, will open in an existing restaurant space at the mall.

Currently, Sixty Vines has locations in Plano and Dallas, Texas, with plans for a third in the Rice Village area of Houston.  Sixty Vines at Perimeter Mall will occupy a roughly 12,000 square foot freestanding building adjacent to where a new Lazy Dog Restaurant will also open. Both restaurants will open in place of what is currently parking, near what was once a four-screen General Cinemas movie theater.

Sixty Vines separates themselves from other restaurants and wine bars by offering 60 wines by the glass — forty of those on tap — and more by the bottle.  The move is not only economical, but environmentally friendly, too. The menu offers options in a variety of quantities, from a 2.5 ounce sip to a 5 ounce mid-size to an 8 ounce big pour, plus thematic flights.  The restaurant also offers cheese and meat boards, sandwiches, salads, pastas and pizzas, as well as main dishes like Scottish salmon and a 6 oz. filet.

Whiskey Cake Kitchen & Bar, a "farm to fork" restaurant, currently has five locations in Texas and one each in Tampa, Florida and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.  The new Whiskey Cake at Perimeter Mall will open in place of Cowfish, which closed abruptly this past January after less than three years in business.  Cowfish opened in early 2016, replacing Goldfish, which itself closed in May 2015, shortly before parent company Here to Serve Restaurants' complete collapse.

Whiskey Cake offers a wider variety of traditional entrees with such offerings as both beef and Beyond Meat burgers, grilled salmon, Black Angus ribeye, and whiskey braised short rib, among other offerings.

Existing locations of Sixty Vines and Whiskey Cake are open for lunch and dinner seven days a week and each offers weekend brunch.

Randy Dewitt founded Front Burner in 1994 and has since grown the company to include ten different restaurant concepts, collectively with more than 100 locations nationwide.

Front Burner is already represented in the Atlanta market by two of its other concepts: Twin Peaks, a "breastaurant," and Velvet Taco, a restaurant offering "tacos without borders."

Twin Peaks currently has Atlanta area locations in Buckhead, Kennesaw and Augusta, while Velvet Taco opened  its first location, in Buckhead, September 9. ToNeTo Atlanta exclusively reported in May that a second Velvet Taco is headed to The Interlock in West Midtown in 2020.

Sixty Vines, Whiskey Cake and Lazy Dog join several other restaurants that have opened at the front of the Dunwoody mall over the past few years.  Shake Shack opened what was then its second Atlanta area location at the mall in October 2016.  In early 2018, Max's Coal Oven Pizza opened in place of the short-lived Varasano's Pizzeria, also at the front of the mall.   Cinco Mexican Cantina opened adjacent to Shake Shack in April 2018.

Most recently, Breakers Korean Bar-B-Q opened this past April in place of The Pub, adjacent to where Whiskey Cake will open.

The new restaurants are in addition to the previously announced Hollister store which opened in August, and giant Zara expansion which is expected to open in October.

Sources close to the mall indicate that Sixty Vines, Whiskey Cake and Lazy Dog are all expected to open in the third quarter of 2020.
