Doom in Douglasville for Mellow Mushroom

Mellow Mushroom has closed their location on Georgia 5 in Douglasville. Open for over eight years, a source says this location was being used as a corporate training store yet had suffered from bad service lately. Georgia-based Mellow Mushroom's largest market remains the metro area with over 40 locations, although the chain is now represented in 15 other states including Virginia, Tennessee, Colorado and Texas.

A pre-recorded message at the restaurant's phone number thanks patrons for being Mellow Mushroom customers and directs them to visit the location in Hiram, one of the closer units, or visit MellowMushroom.com for other options.

The chain opened its first location at Spring and 14th Streets in in downtown Atlanta in 1974, and in 2008, returned to its roots, opening a new location at Spring Street and Ivan Allen Boulevard. This new flagship location is in the street level of the TWELVE Hotel & Residences. While the restaurant is quite large with plenty of outdoor dining, it's widely known that it has not met expectations and may find itself on the chopping block soon.

The Mellow Mushroom can vary greatly depending on location. The locations on Monroe Drive and Lavista Road are consistent and typically very well attended. I once went to one in Alpharetta off Old Milton Parkway and it was awful. Too bad that they can't seem to equalize service across all of the stores because when the store is run well, it's a nice place to eat.

The Chapel Hill Rd/Highway 5 area in Douglasville is really struggling.

MM just opened a new concept restaurant in Newnan called Rock Back Pizza Cafe and the Morning Glory Pizza (That's the entire name).

Hello Anon,

Actually, this new concept is not related to MM as far as I know. It's owned by Biff Farmer and Rocky Reeves, – one of the original founders of Mellow Mushroom.

Each store is independently owned and operated which is why the quality in service can vary from location to location.
