Monday Morning Mash Up

Library Coffee Co. will be closing May 31st and is being replaced by a an Izakaya from the owners of Ichiban Steak & Sushi.  Library has been a fixture in the Dresden / Brookhaven community since it opened over three years ago will surely be missed.

fiVe BELoW, a chain that sells items for $5 or less is entering the Atlanta market in a big way with seven locations opening June 1st.  Locations will open in Johns Creek, Sandy Springs, Buford, Cumming, East Point, Hiram and Kennesaw.  The Philadelphia-based retailer was founded in 2002 by two former executives of the beloved Zany Brainy chain.  The store targets teens and pre-teens though it stocks a wide variety of products.

Community & Southern Bank (CSB)  will be opening in the former Chima restaurant space on Peachtree.  The bank will construct a new two-level structure that will feature a bank branch on level one and bank offices on level two.

Beer Growler Nation is opening soon on LaVista in Oak Grove.  The new store will open in place of the former  Holley Realty Century 21.

According to multiple well places sources, Shaun Doty, co-founder and chef at YEAH! Burger has sold his stake in the business to co-founder Erik Maier.  YEAH! Burger's first location opened on the westside in the summer of 2010 and was soon followed by a second location in Virginia-Highland in the fall.  Shaun closed his namesake eatery Shaun's in Inman Park in late 2010 to focus on YEAH! Burger.  Later this year Shaun will open a new concept, Bantam & Biddy which he describes as a fast casual chicken concept that will be "rotisserie chicken with a lot of sides. It will basically be kind of like a [traditional southern] meat-and-three kind of experience."

Chipotle Mexican Grill is growing its Atlanta presence once again.  After adding new locations in Tucker, near Northlake Mall and in Decatur, near Emory University, the chain will open yet another location, this time off Howell Mill Road.  Chipotle will open in a corner space of Howell Mill Village previously leased to Red Mango. Red Mango has not fared well locally and its plans for expansion has been substantially scaled back.  Having never actually built out the Howell Mill location, Red Mango's only remaining location is off North Decatur near Emory.

T.J. Maxx opened its newest Atlanta area store this past weekend in Midtown Place shopping center on Ponce de Leon Avenue.  The stores took the place of the shuttered Borders Books & Music.

You mean Community & Southern Bank. They actually abbreviate it as CSB. C&S Bank was absorbed into Nations Bank which became Bank of America back in the 90's.

Really hate to see Library Coffee Company close. The lack of support for local and regional coffee shops in Atlanta just befuddles me sometimes. Then I remember, it is Atlanta. Maybe Truett Cathy should start a coffee shop. Cof a ta anyone?
