A New Tapas Restaurant is Coming to Midtown

Andy Alibaksh of Diem Restaurant Group plans to open Tapa Tapa, a new restaurant, in the former Royal Orchid at Midtown Promenade on Monroe Drive in Midtown.

Tapa Tapa will specialize in tapas items, (small plates), as well as offer a number of wine and craft beer options.  A source at the restaurant group indicated to me that the restaurant should open within the next 30 days and the hold-up at this point, as is usually the case, is the restaurant's liquor license.

Diem Restaurant Group consists of Apres Diem, also in Midtown Promenade, as well as Carroll St. Cafe and Village Pizza Co., both on Carroll Street in Cabbagetown.  Carpe Diem was the group's other restaurant, located in Decatur, but it closed in late 2012.

In 2009, Alibaksh partnered with Arnaud Michel of Buckhead's Anis restaurant to open Amuse! on Dutch Valley Road in midtown.  The restaurant was not received well overall and was closed by late 2012.

Royal Orchid closed in early 2012 after 18 years in business.
