Bits & Bites

A new Hardee's is coming soon to Cobb Parkway & Jim Owens Road in Kennesaw.  Hardee's along with west coast sibling eatery Carl's Jr., were purchased last year by Atlanta-based Roark Capital Group with news the chain would be re-entering the metro Atlanta area following the purchase.  Hardee's began in 1960 in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, and once had numerous Atlanta area locations, few of which are still present today.

National popcorn franchise Doc Popcorn plans to open its first Atlanta area location this summer at Sugarloaf Mills in Lawrenceville.

Sephora recently opened its newest Atlanta area location at Cumberland Mall in Cobb county. The new store is located on the mall's mall level, not far from Macy's.  The Cumberland location is the retailer's sixth full service store in Atlanta. Sephora currently operates stores at Lenox Square in Buckhead, Perimeter Mall in Dunwoody, Town Center at Cobb in Kennesaw, Mall of Georgia in Buford and North Point Mall in Alpharetta.  Sephora also operates shop-in-shop locations at various J.C. Penney locations locally and nationwide.

Play It Again Sports has relocated its Buckhead area location from the Publix-anchored Chastain Square to the Outback Steakhouse-anchored Buckhead Court shopping center.

Yogurt Mountain at The Prado on Roswell Road in Sandy Springs is for sale.  The self-serve froyo shop opened in an outparcel of the center in late 2012, and has easily one of the worst possible locations in the complex.  The Shumacher Group, the firm offering the business for sale,  lists it as "keep or convert."  The materials go on to say "Opened for business October 15, 2012. Currently business is not profitable but has major potential with hands-on owner operator."  With the popularity of froyo waning, this would seem to be a troubled concept, not likely to find renewed life with a new "hands-on owner."

After a couple of false starts, Smokebelly Barbecue plans to open today at 5PM.  The barbecue restaurant is located at 128 East Andrews Drive and occupies the former Tavern 99.

My first job was at Hardees on Buford Hwy - it would be nice to see them move back into Atlanta - I only know of 2 around town (Sandy Springs and Stn Mtn)

A new Hardees was built about 2 years ago at I-20 and Thornton Rd in Lithia Springs. That's only one I've seen in Atlanta.

Must have been a trial/test location or something.
