Duluth Getting Over 100 New Hotel Rooms

A new Courtyard by Marriott will soon begin construction in Duluth.

The new Courtyard will be built adjacent to the existing Residence Inn, just off Satellite Boulevard, not far from the Arena at Gwinnett Center and Sugarloaf Mills.  The Residence Inn, also a Marriott brand, opened last October and features 112 guest suites over six floors.

Amazingly enough, the Courtyard brand was born right here in metro Atlanta.  The very first Courtyard opened in 1983 in Marietta, just off of Windy Hill Road.  A hotel representative tells me that the three floor, 127 room hotel is currently undergoing a huge renovation that will mean the addition of guest elevators for the first time in the hotel's 30+ year history.

The new Duluth Courtyard will be eight stories and feature 115 guest rooms as well as additional meeting space.

Nearby, a planned 259 room, ten story Embassy Suites hotel is still unbuilt with no firm signs indicating it will be started anytime soon.  The hotel site is situated in the southwest quadrant of the intersection of Satellite Boulevard and Sugarloaf Parkway.  Plans called for the hotel to also feature a full service restaurant, reportedly a Shula's Steak House, as opposed to Ruth's Chris Steak House, which is found in other Atlanta area Embassy Suites properties.

Construction of the Courtyard hotel is expected to commence in the coming months with a planned opening towards the middle of next year.

As I reported last week, both a new Residence Inn as well as a Hampton Inn are coming to Dunwoody next year.
