Dallas, Texas-based Genghis Grill has closed its restaurant on Perimeter Center West in Sandy Springs. The restaurant was situated on the rear side of a center that also includes La Madeleine and Zoes Kitchen. The center is anchored by REI and Goodwill and literally straddles the Sandy Springs / Dunwoody city lines.
Genghis Grill entered the Atlanta market with a location in Buford near the Mall of Georgia in late 2010. A subsequent location opened in Peachtree Hills in 2011, but about a year later was closed to make way for Lime Fresh Mexican Grill. (Lime Fresh didn't last long either, and today Cafe Sunflower occupies the space.)
The Sandy Springs location of Genghis Grill had been open since 2011. An email was sent to patrons this week making them aware of the closure.
"After four years of operations we have decided to close our location at 1165 Perimeter Center W. We thank you for your support and patronage over the years. Please visit us at our Buford location."
Additional locations in Camp Creek and Alpharetta were announced but never opened. A total of ten locations were to have opened overall in metro Atlanta. A Genghis Grill opened in Augusta in 2013 and reportedly follows the chain's new initiative of opening new locations in smaller cities.
The Buford restaurant, off Buford Drive near the Mall of Georgia, will reportedly remain open.
Genghis Grill is not the only "create your own stir fry" concept to experience troubles in metro Atlanta.
The original The Real Chow Baby closed on Howell Mill Road late last month while Chicago-based Stir Crazy closed their location in TOWN Brookhaven in 2012, after about a year in business.
I ate there just before the holidays and it had gone downhill. There were all of four of us in the restaurant and they had to ask twice what we ordered. I purposely put a lot of broccoli in my bowl and ended up with 3 pieces. And the food was soggy. Sounds like an inexperienced cook and it just wasn't worth the cost.
ReplyDeleteWent once, and was sat at a table. No one came to greet us for 15 minutes. So we left and went to La Madeline and I havent been back. No surprise they closed
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed them, but always wondered if all of what I gave them to cook came back to me.
ReplyDeleteIn all reality, anything on the east side of 400 is Dunwoody. Sandy Springs is on the other side!
ReplyDeleteYour map reading skills need some help, Anonymous. The boundary between Sandy Springs and Dunwoody is very much east of Georgia 400.
ReplyDeleteActually perimeter mall is dunwoody and everything behind it I want to say starting with Perimeter Ctr., West? Is Sandy Springs. the mall is in Dunnwoody and genghis Grill is in Sandy Springs.
