Hot Dog shop coming to Beltine neighborhood.
A new hot dog shop called "Krog Dogs" plans to open May 7th at 10 Krog Street near the Krog Street tunnel and close to Krog Street Market and the Atlanta Beltline.
Krog Dogs describes itself as "A classic hot dog stand serving the most delicious dogs."
Hot dogs are a popular food trend with fast food burger chain Burger King launching grilled dogs last month and finding the menu item extremely popular. “There has been an overwhelming response,” CEO Dan Accordino said of the grilled hot dogs.
Near where Krog Dogs plans to open, Chef Kevin Ouzts of The Spotted Trotter and The Cockentrice opened Frankly Hot Dogs in Krog Street Market this past October.
Despite the failure of Richard Blais's HD1 gourmet hot dog concept in Poncey Highland, I think Krog Dogs could be quite successful.
Streatery, a hot dog-centric food truck launched in 2010, operates two locations downtown: one near Peachtree Center, the other near The Georgia Aquarium.
What are your thoughts on hot dogs as the leading item in a menu? Are you a fan of Frankly Hot Dogs? Have you tried the Burger King grilled hot dogs?

I suspect it is sort of a challenge to serve a quality hot dog at a reasonable price. The product has to be of good quality to get people in the door. However, the perception of hot dogs as cheap food makes many folks hesitant to pay much for one.
Good hot dogs = great / bad hot dogs = disgusting
Good hamburgers = good / bad hamburgers = still a hamburger so not bad
It's much more likely to get a bad hot dog than it is to get a bad hamburger. I remember buying a hot dog from some truck at Woodruff Arts Center a couple years ago, taking a bite, and throwing the thing in the trash. Completely revolting. I liked HD1 because its hot dogs were consistently decent quality, but I definitely wouldn't trust Burger King with tube steak.
