The concept originated in Japan where it has a significant presence and operates as Kura Sushi Japan. The company's U.S. division has nine locations in California and three in Texas including their newest, which recently opened in Austin.
According to the company's website, Kula is also looking to expand into Chicago, New Jersey, New York, Seattle, Oahu, Hawaii, and Portland, Oregon.
I first experienced "conveyor belt sushi," as it is called, a few years ago at a place called Wasabi in Tysons Corner Center near Washington D.C.
The idea at Kula is basically that a rotating variety of sushi and similar fare is sent via conveyor belt throughout the restaurant and customers pick and choose what they like as it passes by.
In addition to Kula, "Miss Gogi," which is a Korean BBQ eatery, as well as a "gourmet Chinese restaurant" and a "Japanese noodle restaurant" are all expected to open in Peachtree Pavilion.
A representative from Kula indicated to me that they hope to open "later this summer."
Have you ever been to Kula or a similar "conveyor belt" style sushi eatery? Are you excited for the new additions coming to Peachtree Pavilion? What other restaurants would you like to see join the center?

I experienced "conveyor belt sushi," over 20 years ago on a trip to London... then I discovered a restaurant in Duluth had a similar "sushi train" ... that location is now (and has been for years) the Korean spot, Jang Su Jang. (No sushi nor train anymore but good Korean food)
Kula has a sign saying "Opening 7/18" as of tonight
Eating here at the moment and it's pretty busy. Glad to see it thriving in Doraville!
