Home2 Suites Plans to Check-In to Midtown Atlanta In 2018

The Regency Suites hotel in midtown will soon be re-flagged as a Home2 Suites by Hilton.  Plans call for the existing eight story, 96 room hotel to be completely renovated to become the extended-stay Hilton brand.  The hotel, which sits on just over a third of an acre, was built in 1965.  

Home2 Suites Atlanta Midtown, as the property is likely to be called, is located at 975 West Peachtree Street, near its intersection with 10th Street, near not only Google's Atlanta offices, but also Turner Studio and Georgia Tech.

ToNeTo Atlanta was first to report on the initial entry of Home2 Suites into the metro Atlanta market in 2013.  The ten-story, 128 all-suite Home2 Suites Atlanta Downtown finally opened this past summer after a years long renovation process.  The hotel opened at 87 Walton Street in the Fairlie Poplar District in a historic building known to many as "The Walton."   

Fulton County tax records indicate that Greenbelt, Maryland- based Baywood Hotels purchased the Regency Suites property last August for about $15.7 million.   Thus far, there has only been one permit for the project  It was filed earlier this year in the amount of $1.5 million. The permit for "commercial alteration" includes interior renovations of the existing guest rooms and corridors, new FF&E (furniture, fixtures & equipment), and new electrical layout to meet Home2 Suites brand standards.  

The renovation is also expected to include the installation of new flooring, wall coverings, fixtures and finishes, as well as updates to the exterior of the building.

Sources say that the renovation and re-flagging of the hotel is expected to be completed by March 2018. 

There are currently nine Home2 Suites hotels in Georgia: Atlanta downtown, Augusta, Cartersville, Columbus, Grovetown, Macon, McDonough, Newnan and St. Simons Island.  A tenth Home2 Suites is coming to Norcross by the end of the year.  The Norcross property will replace the existing  Wingate by Wyndham Atlanta hotel at 5800 Peachtree Industrial Boulevard.  The Home2 Suites website indicates that the Norcross hotel will open December 31, 2017.  

Another Home2 was planned for Tucker near Northlake Mall, but never came to fruition.
