[UPDATE] The Daily in Alpharetta Has Been Pushed to 2019

Announced last July, Alpharetta's The Daily is not much closer to opening now than it was then.  Planned to replace the former The Varsity restaurant at the corner of Westside Parkway and Rainwater Drive which closed in February 2016, The Daily will include a total of approximately 14,000 square feet between seven separate spaces.  The largest space, approximately 3,123 square feet, has been leased to Nashville-based breakfast and lunch eatery Biscuit Love, with the smallest, a mere 400 square feet, set to be a King of Pops bar.

Atlanta-based Revel, led by Kristi Rooks and George Banks, is partnering with Nashville-based restaurant firm Fresh Hospitality in the development of the project.

Fresh Hospitality's brands include a number of small, regional concepts including Biscuit Love, Panini Pete's, Citizen Kitchens, Greko Greek Street Food and The Grilled Cheeserie.  Fresh also owns Taziki's Mediterranean Cafe and Juice Bar, both with existing Atlanta area locations.  A group of Fresh Hospitality partners purchased Atlanta-based Taco Mac in early March

Although reported on previously as if it were a food hall, The Daily is not so much a food hall as it is a collection of restaurants in a shared space.  There is reportedly not yet an industry term for what The Daily will be, but given that the size of each restaurant (with the exception of King of Pops) is about 2,300 square feet, calling it a food hall would be inaccurate.

In addition to Biscuit Love and King of Pops, two other spaces, one 2,819 square feet and the other 2,525 square feet, have both been leased, but to undisclosed tenants.  Three other spaces measuring 2,527, 1,841 and 1,259 square feet are all listed as available.  The project is also expected to include a beer garden component in the development's center dining area.

Details of the two leased spaces are expected later this summer, of which at least one is expected to be another Fresh Hospitality concept.

The Daily was originally slated to open this spring, but sources close to the development now tell ToNeTo Atlanta they are targeting an opening in the first quarter of 2019.  Presently the site sits idle, with the former restaurant having been demolished months ago, but with construction not expected to begin until later this summer.

On marketing materials, The Daily is referred to as "Alpharetta's New Gathering Spot,"  but many wonder whether the property, located between North Point Mall and Avalon, can draw enough people on its own to be sustainable.  Banks and his partners seem convinced that the uniqueness of the offering, especially OTP, in combination with the curated dining options, will be popular with workers and families in the area.

Are you excited for the opening of The Daily in Alpharetta?  What else would you like to see open in The Daily?  Do you think The Daily will be popular?

Nothing unique about this at all. It's a modern strip mall of restaurants surrounded by parking. The demolition of Rainwater (a perfectly good building) is a complete waste of infrastructure and resources.

Rainwater is Ruth's Chris. This was the Varsity.

Yes, I think it will be popular....especially during weekdays. It's surrounded by office buildings and a ton of new residential construction along West Side Parkway and Kimball Bridge Rd. Nobody wants to fight with parking at Avalon and downtown Alpharetta just to eat so this will be a nice alternative. Wish it was opening sooner tbh
