[Attention, Attention] Ecco to Open November 13 at Phipps Plaza in Buckhead

Atlanta-based Fifth Group plans to open the highly anticipated third outpost of its popular Ecco restaurant Tuesday November 13 at Phipps Plaza in Buckhead.  The new restaurant was constructed on a tiny piece of vacant land adjacent to Nordstrom at Phipps Plaza, at the corner of Wieuca and Peachtree Roads.  The restaurant opens alongside the AC Hotel by Marriott Atlanta Buckhead at Phipps Plaza hotel which opened during the summer of 2016.
When ToNeTo Atlanta first reported on the planned restaurant opening in January 2016, plans called for the restaurant to open in mid-2017.  The tight space in which the restaurant was built and typical City of Atlanta delays no doubt played a part in the restaurant's delayed opening.

Atlanta's The Johnson Studio designed the restaurant. Locally, The Johnson Studio has designed a number of popular restaurants including KR SteakBar in Peachtree Hills and re-designed the Polaris at the Hyatt Regency downtown.
When it opens, Ecco, which features a "Mediterranean-inspired" menu, would be in direct competition with St. Cecilia, located about a block away in the bottom of the Pinnacle office building.  Ecco's Buckhead location will seat 240, including an 80 seat private dining room and a 50 seat patio.  Additionally, while Ecco Midtown serves dinner only, the Buckhead location will eventually also offer lunch seven days a week.  To start, the restaurant will be dinner only - to get their feet wet - with plans to add lunch service Monday, November 19.

The original Ecco opened on 7th Street in Midtown Atlanta in 2006.   In early 2013, HMSHost opened a licensed location of the midtown hotspot in Concourse F, in the International Terminal of Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

Fifth Group, which has been in business in Atlanta since 1993, today operates ten restaurants around metro Atlanta and a successful catering, event, and design business, Bold Catering & Design.

The group opened a satellite location of South City Kitchen in the lobby level of the One Capital City Plaza building, next to the Buckhead MARTA station, in 2016.  In 2019, Fifth Group plans to open a Buckhead outpost of the group's popular downtown eatery Alma Cocina, an upscale modern Mexican restaurant.  The Buckhead location will open in Terminus at the corner of Peachtree and Piedmont Roads in the former BrickTop's restaurant.

Back at Phipps Plaza, Ecco joins a host of recently opened restaurants including Grand Lux Cafe, Public Kitchen & Bar and Genuine Pizza.  In 2020/2021, One Phipps Plaza will see the addition of a number of new options including a huge new Life Time fitness, Nobu Hotel and restaurant, food hall, and Class A office building, among other new additions.

Are you excited for the opening of Ecco in Buckhead?  If you've been to both, do you prefer St. Cecilia or Ecco?  What other Fifth Group restaurant would you like to see open additional locations?
