[EXCLUSIVE] Four Fat Cows Opening Ice Cream Shop in Buckhead, More Locations Coming

Locally owned Four Fat Cows, a gourmet ice cream shop, is going for five with their upcoming debut in Buckhead.  The new Buckhead location will open on Pharr Road, adjacent to both Barking Hound Village and Karma Farm.  The ice cream shop will be located at 30 Pharr Road, which until earlier this year was home to Karma Daisy, a sibling restaurant of Karma Farm.  The Cookie Studio and Fuoco di Napoli, a pizzeria, both operated from 30 Pharr Road in the past.

Founder Robyn Rowles opened the first Four Fat Cows on North Main Street in Alpharetta during the summer of 2014.  A second location opened in Athens last February, followed by a third at the Marietta Square Market this past March. Earlier this month, a fourth location opened in Dunwoody Village in Dunwoody, in what was a Carvel a number of years ago.

Robyn, is the CEO of the business and her son and business partner Brenden Higbee is CFO.  Higbee graduated last May from the Goizueta Business School at Emory University, and after considering careers in investment banking and restaurant consulting, he opted to join his mother and "buy into the business." Higbee assists his mother in the growth of the brand which the duo indicates is full speed ahead with a number of initiatives and new locations in the works.

Both Robyn and her son suffer from celiac disease and accordingly, a significant portion of their menu is gluten-free.  If Robyn's name sounds familiar, it's because she previously owned Tin Roof Kitchen in Alpharetta, a completely gluten-free restaurant.

The Buckhead location of Four Fat Cows will act as a production facility and will produce ice cream (Nutella cookie dough anyone?) and other pastries (brownies, cookies, cupcakes etc.) in the back, with retail of pastries and ice cream as well as a curated selection of other retail goods in the front.  Robyn tells ToNeTo Atlanta she makes every effort to carry lines and items that can't be had everywhere, "amazon proof," if you will, just like a cup of their fresh made ice cream.  The shop will also offer coffee from Batdorf & Bronson.

The opening of Four Fat Cows in Buckhead will likely precede the Buckhead debut of Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams at nearby Buckhead Market Place on West Paces Ferry Road.  Four Fat Cows Buckhead will seemingly mark the return of a local ice cream shop to the area following the closure of of once popular Gorin's Homemade Ice Cream at Phipps Plaza about ten years ago.

Four Fat Cows Buckhead is expected to debut in mid-to-late August.  A number of other locations are reportedly in the works over the next eighteen months or so in the greater metro Atlanta area, with continued expansion ITP and OTP as well as the potential to cross state lines into neighboring southern destinations.

In addition to Four Fat Cows, the owners are planning to open Pulp Addiction, a juice, smoothie, bowl and other healthy fare eatery in the trolley at the front of the Marietta Square Market.   Pulp Addiction is expected to open later this summer and if successful, it's altogether possible the concept could be expanded elsewhere.

Have you been to Four Fat Cows?  What is your favorite ice cream flavor?  What local ice cream shop would you like to see expand next?
