[EXCLUSIVE] Bar That Claims to Have Invented the Buffalo Wing Bound for Former Burger Joint in Kennesaw

A restaurant that claims to have invented the Buffalo wing is opening a location in metro Atlanta.  Frank & Teressa's Anchor Bar is slated to open in place of the recently shuttered Fuddruckers restaurant at 2708 Town Center Drive near Town Center at Cobb in Kennesaw.  Fuddruckers Kennesaw closed at the end of July after 25 years in business.
The original Frank & Teressa's in Buffalo, New York

The Anchor Bar on Main Street in Buffalo, New York, was established in 1935 by Frank and Teressa Bellissimo.  The restaurant claims to be the home of the original Buffalo-style chicken wing.

According to the restaurant:

"On March 4th, 1964, Dominic Bellissimo was tending bar at the now-famous Anchor Bar Restaurant in Buffalo, NY. Late that evening, a group of Dominic’s friends arrived at the bar with ravenous appetites. Dominic asked his mother, Teressa, to prepare something for his friends to eat.

They looked like chicken wings, a part of the chicken that usually went into the stock pot for soup. Teressa had deep fried the wings and flavored them with a secret sauce. The wings were an instant hit and it didn’t take long for people to flock to the bar to experience their new taste sensation. From that evening on, Buffalo Wings became a regular part of the menu at the Anchor Bar.

The phenomenon created in 1964 by Teressa Bellissimo has spread across the globe. Although many have tried to duplicate the Buffalo wing, the closely guarded secret recipe is what makes Frank & Teressa’s the proclaimed “Best Wings in the World.”

Although the restaurant's claim to fame is its Buffalo wings, Anchor Bar restaurants also feature assorted burgers, pastas, seafood and pizza, among other offerings.

According to the Anchor Bar website, there are currently fifteen locations of the Buffalo, New York-based eatery, including seven in New York and four in Canada.  The others are in Maryland, Michigan and Texas (2).

Have you ever been to or heard of Frank & Teressa's Anchor Bar?  Are you excited for the opening of Frank & Teressa's Anchor Bar in Kennesaw?  What is your favorite Kennesaw area restaurant?

I'll have a double order, crispy, medium and a bottle of pop. Now if they will only open a Bailo's here I can also get a beef on Weck!

I have been to this place and it is legit!
The wings are really good, but part of the charm of the place is the atmosphere. It is much bigger than you would think and packed with crowds. We went on a Saturday night and the wait was a couple hours. We downed a few pitchers while waiting and listened to a live performance by Dodo Greene. We were finally seated and feasted on the original wings. I think we left the place after midnight and they were still on a wait!

They sell their sauce in stores and I have used it to make wings at home and everyone liked them.

Kennesaw is kind of far for me but I'll head out there to give it a try.

I grew up in the suburbs of Buffalo, so I know all about Anchor Bar. It's true...that's where it all began. And they are absolutely delicious! I love their pizza too.

We visited the home of buffalo chicken wings on our family visit to Niagara Falls and the best buffalo wings ever I ate.. I got into this restaurant and Bar as I was sooooo hungry and as impatient to look for a restaurant and drove into this place. This turned out to be the best wings I've ever had!! My family also loved this place, the ambiance, the service and taste was awesome.

@Susan RE: opening,

At this point it's premature to speculate on an opening but I'm confident it will happen during the first half of next year.

Thanks for your comments and readership!

Anchor Bar in BUF is the real deal -- but so is Clay's in Sandy Springs. In fact, until someone shows up with bigger, better wings than Clay's that will stay my go-to.
