[EXCLUSIVE] The Boiler Seafood Drops Anchor at Former Woofs on Piedmont

A new restaurant called The Boiler Seafood & Crab Boil is coming soon to Piedmont Road near the Lindbergh MARTA station.  The new restaurant is opening in the former Woofs Sports Bar at 2425 Piedmont Road in Piedmont Plaza.   The 3,844 square foot restaurant space has been vacant since Woofs, a popular gay sports bar, relocated to 494 Plasters Avenue this past July after 17 years in its original location.
According to complaints filed with the City of Atlanta, work on the restaurant started in August but without proper permits on file.  Complaints citing the "illegal build out" were filed with the City of Atlanta on August 1 and September 13 with proper permits eventually filed September 23 for interior renovation of the existing restaurant space including flooring, painting, new furniture, new benches, and removal of non-load bearing partition wall.  The cost of all work is estimated at a mere $10,000.

Although likely still weeks if not months away from opening, the restaurant proudly proclaims to be "The #1 Seafood And Crab Boil destination in Buckhead, Atlanta" on its facebook page.

The Boiler Seafood is the latest in wave of new crab-centric Cajun-style eateries that have been popping up across metro Atlanta over the past few months.

Based in Duluth, The Juicy Crab made its debut in late 2015, and now includes about ten locations in metro Atlanta as well as other restaurants newly opened or coming soon to Alabama, Florida, Tennessee, Texas, and Mississippi, among other states.    ToNeTo Atlanta exclusively reported this past May that the chain plans to open a new restaurant in place of the former Piccadilly Cafeteria at Howell Mill Square in West Midtown.

Another restaurant, Tasty Crab House is coming soon to Brookwood Square just off the East West Connector in Austell. The Cajun style seafood restaurant is based in Charleston and like The Juicy Crab, is expanding aggressively, including a recently opened location on Watson Boulevard in Warner Robins and an additional nine locations coming soon.

The Krab Hut,  another concept, debuted this past year in a former Joe's Crab Shack on Pleasant Hill Road in Duluth, and has expanded to Snellville, Jonesboro and Macon, as well as into cities in neighboring states.

Several other similar restaurants exist or are coming soon to metro Atlanta including Shaking Crawfish on Buford Highway in Doraville, Crab404 which opened last month in the former Food 101 on Roswell Road in Sandy Springs and The Pirate's Boil which is coming soon to Cobb Parkway in Smyrna.

Have you been to numerous Cajun-style crab joints in Atlanta?  If so, which has been your favorite?  Are you excited for the opening of The Boiler in Buckhead?  What type of restaurant do you feel is missing from Buckhead?

I’ve never been to any of these places, but is it just me, or does this seem like a really weird trend? I hope they all succeed and I need to try one, but boiled seafood is a strange sector to be exploding.

Most seafood from these places are imported and come from contaminated waters. There are lots of payoffs and looksee’s the other way to pass inspections. The only seafood I trust is from Costco and the McDonalds Filet of Fish because of the McConsistent McQuality McControl.
