[EXCLUSIVE] Ted's Montana Grill to Open in "Upper Westside"

A new location of Ted's Montana Grill is coming to metro Atlanta next year.  The new Ted's will open in the new Westside Village development along Marietta Boulevard near Moores Mill Road.  Ted's will occupy suite 210, a 3,513 square foot space in the mixed-use development where Yonder Yoga and Clean Juice are already open and Marlow's Tavern, Dunkin' [Donuts], Chase Bank and Westside Pizzeria, among others, are committed to open.

The new Ted's, located about five miles from the Ted's at 1874 Peachtree Street, may be meant to eventually replace the existing location.  You see, the Shepherd Center late last year purchased the land on which both Ted's Montana Grill and Uncle Julio's are located.  Shepherd Center paid roughly $20 million for the 2.7 acre site where it plans to build a facility to expand its housing program for patients’ family members.  No timetable for either restaurant closure has been confirmed, nor has work started on the Shepherd Center project.  That said, sources close to Ted's indicate it may close by the end of 2020.

Media mogul and CNN founder Ted Turner and LongHorn Steakhouse founder George McKerrow, Jr. partnered to open the first Ted's Montana Grill in Columbus, Ohio in 2002.  The Peachtree Road restaurant made its debut in September 2003.  Since then, the Atlanta-based chain has expanded to 43 locations across 16 states with Georgia locations in Decatur, Marietta, Peachtree Corners, Kennesaw and Buford, among others.

At its height, the chain operated 55 locations but over the years has slowed growth and eliminated poor performing locations.  The chain previously closed Georgia locations in Austell, Fayetteville and Newnan as well as those in Raleigh, North Carolina, Sterling, Virginia and Omaha, Nebraska, among others.

It's been about five years since the chain opened a new location in metro Atlanta.  The most recent one, situated in Alpharetta's Avalon, opened in late October 2014.

The new, roughly 3,500 square foot restaurant at Westside Village is far smaller than the roughly 6,000 square foot Peachtree location and evidence that the chain is trimming its size to remain profitable.

Sources close to Ted's indicate that the new Upper Westside restaurant should be open by summer 2020.  There is no word yet on whether the life-size buffalo in front of the Peachtree restaurant will make the move to the new location.

Are you a fan of Ted's Montana Grill?  Are you pleased by the current roster of tenants at Westside Village?  What other businesses would you like to see open as part of Westside Village?

So much hype for Westside village and now turning into a major disappointment. This isn't north Cobb County; there are exactly ZERO people excited for a new Marlows and Ted's.

Love Ted’s!!! I’m normally not a fan of chains, but they have great food! Always fresh and good quality! I think people need to actually eat there before complaining just because it’s a chain. Great bison burgers! Awesome dinner meals! It’s a great spot for families.
