[EXCLUSIVE] Popular Midtown Restaurant 5Church to Open Buckhead Outpost

The owner of 5Church is planning to open a second Atlanta area location, this one in Buckhead.  ToNeTo Atlanta first got wind of the plans for a Buckhead outpost of 5Church in late 2019 ["5Church Buckhead LLC" was registered with the Georgia Secretary of State October 31, 2019], but the pandemic was thought to have delayed/derailed the plans.  Fortunately, the restaurant is still very much happening and filings indicate that a lease has been signed and that the restaurant could open later this year.
5Church Buckhead will be located at 3379 Peachtree Road, between The Westin Buckhead Atlanta and Hotel Colee (formerly the W Atlanta - Buckhead) in a space most recently home to Sage Woodfire Tavern.  Sage opened in March 2018, but its parent company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy just a few months later and it closed for good in March 2019.  An estimated $2 million was spent renovating the 11,500 square foot space that before Sage was home to Morton's The Steakhouse, but which had sat empty since Morton's abrupt 2012 closure.

The original Atlanta 5Church opened at Colony Square in Midtown in 2016.  The restaurant was initially part of the Charlotte-based restaurant group that opened the first 5Church in the Queen City, but is today owned and managed by former group partner Ayman Kamel.  The new Buckhead outpost is also being opened by Kamel, and like Midtown, is no longer affiliated with 5th Street Group, owners of 5Church Charlotte, 5Church Charleston, and several other restaurants.

Planning documents indicate that 5Church Buckhead (referred to as "Olympus - Buckhead") will be 6,096 square feet, suggesting that the roughly 5,500 square foot upstairs that had been used by Sage is not part of the 5Church lease and will not be part of the new restaurant.  In addition to the roughly 6,100 square foot interior, plans call for a roughly 1,250 square foot patio addition/renovation.
The restaurant, via Plexus r + d, who is handling the design of the space, applied to the City of Atlanta this month for a Special Administrative Permit (SAP) for modifications to the current uncovered patio.  The application is for the "construction of a 1,246 sf new glass and steel enclosure of an existing exterior dining platform adjacent to the existing restaurant."
