One local restaurateur is on the verge of opening his third restaurant since December. Following the openings of Scoville Hot Chicken on Roswell Road in Sandy Sprigs on December 4 and on East Broad Street in Athens on January 8, owner Justin Lim is slated to open a new Scoville in early March at 3420 Piedmont Road. The new outpost replaces Lovie's BBQ, which closed permanently last year after an extended COVID-19 related hiatus. Scoville is located on the back side of the building that also houses popular Indian quick-serve eatery Naan Stop.
Scoville's menu includes the classic hot chicken sandwich available in five spice levels, slaw, fries, a combo with sandwich and fries, plus Stubborn Sodas beverages, tea, fresh-squeezed strawberry lemonade, and that's it!
The centerpiece of the Scoville menu is their hot chicken, which also gives the restaurant its name. The Scoville scale is a measurement of the pungency (spiciness or "heat") of chili peppers, as recorded in Scoville Heat Units (SHU). The scale is named after its creator, American pharmacist Wilbur Scoville, whose 1912 method is the basis on which pepper spiciness is measured.
Despite having only recently opened, during a pandemic, ahead of the holidays, in the winter, and as a new brand, Scoville's Sandy Springs location has already amassed more than 350 reviews between Google and Yelp with a collective average of 4.65 stars.
In addition to Scoville, Lim is also co-owner of Okiboru Tsukemen & Ramen which opened in late 2019 at Modera Sandy Springs, a few blocks north of 285 on Roswell Road at the Modera Sandy Springs apartment community. The Sandy Springs outpost was the second Okiboru, but is now the only one, following the original Los Angeles location's permanent closure last year.
