Cobb County property documents indicate that a new Aldi grocery store is coming to Cobb Parkway in Marietta. The new store will be constructed at 249 South Cobb Parkway, adjacent to a new-look Krystal restaurant and across the street from the Marietta Diner. Demolition of the existing structure - previously home to Houston Brothers Inc. - is already underway.
Aldi paid $3.2 million for the more than two and a half acre site. The transaction, which according to Cobb property records closed on April 9, will bring new life to the former automotive sales site and its building which dates from 1951.
There are already several Aldi stores in Cobb county including one at 2125 Roswell Road, about three miles from the new store, and another at 2589 Spring Road, just over five miles from the new store.
ToNeTo Atlanta reported April 27 that Aldi also plans to open a new store in Buford near the Mall of Georgia. The Buford store will be nearly 24,000 square feet and will be located in Marketplace at Millcreek, where it will replace media retailer 2nd & Charles.
Aldi, which already operates about seventy stores in Georgia and more than two dozen in the greater metro Atlanta area, announced plans in February to open about 100 new locations nationwide in 2021, with a focus on Arizona, California, Florida and the Northeast. The company operates more than 2,000 stores in the U. S.
Sprouts Farmers Market is also opening a new store in the area with renovations of the one time Cost Plus World Market currently underway at Heritage Pavilion, about five miles south of the upcoming Aldi store.
