[EXCLUSIVE] Velvet Taco Will Soon Make Westside Debut

Atlantans will soon have two places to enjoy "tacos without borders."  A second metro area Velvet Taco is currently slated to open Monday, June 14 in West Midtown.  The new 2,659 square foot restaurant will open near the corner of 14th Street and Howell Mill Road in the lobby level of the new mixed-use project The Interlock.  The new restaurant is slightly larger than the chain's original Atlanta location which opened along West Paces Ferry Road at Buckhead Market Place in September 2019.

Launched in 2011, Velvet Taco is part of Dallas, Texas-based FB Society (fka Front Burner Restaurants), which also created the Twin Peaks restaurant chain, among other concepts.  When Velvet Taco announced plans for their Buckhead outpost, there were ten going on twelve locations.  Today there are twenty four locations open with The Interlock location and a third Chicago area location marking the chains 25th and 26th units.  Two of the chains newer locations have opened in food halls - one in Optimist Hall in Charlotte, the other in Assembly Hall in Nashville.

The Interlock location is not a compact food hall unit nor will it have a drive-thru as at least one Texas area location does, but it will have a streetside takeout window for easy access, late grub on the go.

With a tagline of  "Tacos without borders," Velvet Taco features a wide variety of worldly tacos made from beef, chicken, pork and fish, as well as veggie tacos such as "Nashville Not Tofu," fried paneer (an Indian cheese) and falafel.

The Buckhead Velvet Taco has performed exceptionally well for the company, according to sources familiar with the chain and it's therefore quite possible for there to be additional units planned for the area in the coming months/years.

In addition to Velvet Taco, The Interlock is also already home to Puttshack, Chase Bank and The Bellyard, West Midtown Atlanta, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel  and will soon welcome a host of other new offerings including Cathy's gourmet ice cream sandwiches, Pour Taproom, Saint Germain bakery, Lovesac and Nectar, a mattress retailer, among other tenants.  A second phase of the project is expected to bring a new 42,514 square foot Publix Super Market in mid 2023.

Have you ever been to a Velvet Taco?  Are you excited about the prospect of a high-quality late night dining option on the Westside? Where else would you like to see Velvet Taco locations open in metro Atlanta?
