Several months ahead of schedule, the new Hyatt Centric Atlanta Buckhead is slated to open in December behind Lenox Square in Buckhead. The new hotel, built on the one acre site of a former ATM, is situated behind Bloomingdale's, on the edge of GA-400 and with direct pedestrian access to the Gordon C. Bynum Jr. bridge and Buckhead's "Beltline," PATH400. The 16 story hotel features 218 guestrooms as well as two food and beverage options conceptualized by James Beard award winning "Top Chef" Hugh Acheson!

Acheson, who also owns Empire State South in Midtown, is no stranger to hotel restaurants. Achie's at the Omni Hotel at the Battery Atlanta was developed by Acheson and debuted in January 2018 but closed in November 2018. More recently, Acheson debuted By George, a French restaurant at The Candler Hotel Downtown, a boutique hotel under the Curio Collection by Hilton flag. The restaurant opened in October 2019 but closed just a few months later as the pandemic forced restaurants to close, meetings to be cancelled, offices to "go remote," and tradeshows to be postponed. According to the By George website, the restaurant has "ceased regular operating hours until further notice." This past February, Acheson also celebrated the opening of Ovide, the signature restaurant at Hotel Effie Sandestin, a new boutique hotel in Miramar Beach, Florida.

The Hyatt Centric Atlanta Buckhead is one of several new hotels to have opened or expected to open soon in Buckhead. The new-build 164 room Element by Westin Atlanta Buckhead debuted this past November along Piedmont Road near Lenox Road, adjacent to the Prominence office tower. In February, the 217 room Kimpton Sylvan Hotel opened in a converted mid-century condo building on East Paces Ferry Road, not far from the Buckhead Village District. The 201-room Thompson Hotel is expected to welcome guests as of December 1 according to its website, but sources close to the hotel tell ToNeTo Atlanta that its opening will likely not happen until after the first of the year. Built on the site of a former State Bank branch, the new-build hotel is situated at the corner of Buckhead Avenue and East Paces Ferry Road, not far from the Sylvan. The Thompson will also be home to Dirty Rascal, a signature Italian American restaurant from Executive Chef Josh Hopkins and consulting Chef Todd Ginsberg. Two Roads Hospitality, creators and operators of the the Thompson brand, was in late 2018 acquired by Hyatt Hotels.
Hyatt Hotels Corporation introduced the Hyatt Centric brand in 2015 and according to the company's website there are now 38 hotels under the Hyatt Centric flag worldwide. Hyatt Centric Atlanta Buckhead is the second Centric hotel in metro Atlanta joining the existing location on 10th Street in Midtown which opened in September 2018 in place of the Hyatt Midtown Atlanta.
Are you excited for the opening of the Hyatt Centric Atlanta Buckhead and its involvement with Hugh Acheson? What is your all-time favorite hotel and hotel restaurant/bar? What hotel brand (Andaz? Ace? Graduate?) would you most like to see open in metro Atlanta?
