[EXCLUSIVE] Lazy Dog to Bring Fido Friendly Dining to Alpharetta

More than a year after we first heard that Lazy Dog Restaurant & Bar was planning to open a third Atlanta location, new signage confirms it.  A new Lazy Dog will be built at the corner of Haynes Bridge Road and North Point Parkway, just off exit 9 of GA 400 near North Point Mall in Alpharetta.   The new Lazy Dog joins an existing Atlanta area location that opened during the summer of 2019 on Peachtree Parkway in Peachtree Corners, and a second location that is slated to open in February in an outparcel of Perimeter Mall in Dunwoody.

In Alpharetta, Lazy Dog will be built as part of a multi-tenant redevelopment of former Ruby Tuesday and Joe's Crab Shack restaurants.  Lazy Dog will adopt the 10800 Haynes Bridge Road address where the former Joe's Crab Shack once stood.

As Lazy Dog tells it:

"The space draws inspiration from Jackson Hole, Wyoming, allowing for guests to connect and experience the spirit of the mountains while dining in a contemporary rustic environment. Lazy Dog’s grand interior is complete with lodge-inspired furnishings such as cozy fireplaces, ledge stone, a chandelier crafted from Aspen logs, and artwork reminiscent of the Cowboy State."

Lazy Dog restaurants offer lunch and dinner weekly as well as weekend brunch.  Over the summer of 2020, during the early months of the pandemic, the restaurant launched several "retro style TV dinners," which remain on the menu today.  A half dozen made-in-house frozen take-home meals are offered for about ten bucks.

As the name suggests, the restaurant is fido-friendly, with complimentary bowls of water offered on the patio.

Chris Simms, a P.F. Chang's veteran whose father started the Mimi's Cafe chain, started the Huntington Beach, California-based Lazy Dog in 2003, and today operates 41 locations in eight states.  The majority of the company's restaurants are in California where they currently operate 23 with a 24th opening soon.  The chain has been expanding, opening in Boca Raton in south Florida this past November, their first location in The Sunshine State.

The Dunwoody restaurant will be just under 10,000 square feet plus a more than 2,000 square foot patio.  In Alpharetta, the restaurant will be a bit smaller, measuring just over 9,000 square feet with a roughly 1,500 square foot patio.

Site prep work just started for the Alpharetta restaurant where a company spokesperson says they plan to open in fall 2022.  The Perimeter location, however, is basically ready to roll and is to open February 9.  In advance of the opening, the company [certified a Great Place to Work 4 years in a row] is looking to fill dozens of roles at the restaurant and is sweetening the pot with a $500 bonus awarded upon completion of training.  Those interested in exploring employment opportunities can apply here.

In addition to Lazy Dog, Atlanta's Food Terminal and Florida's Bolay, both growing restaurants, plan to open new locations in the North Point area over the coming months.
