[EXCLUSIVE] Upscale Vegan Restaurant Planning Pair of Atlanta Outposts

In late 2021, ToNeTo Atlanta took a road trip to south Florida.  It was on this trip that we were introduced to PLANTA, an entirely plant-based restaurant that we chronicled in an Instagram (@tonetoatl) post in early January.  In that post we highlighted the amazing food and wished aloud that an Atlanta PLANTA would come soon.  Fortunately, things were seemingly already in the works, as it was just a few days later that "Planta Krog LLC" was registered with the Georgia Secretary of State!

Official word is expected soon, but in ToNeTo Atlanta's efforts to always keep our readers ahead of the curve, we are pleased to be able to confirm that PLANTA plans to open at Krog Street Market before the end of the year!  PLANTA will open in the former Watchman's Seafood & Spirits, a roughly 3,000 square foot space which closed this past February after nearly four years in business.  The space was originally home to The Luminary, a restaurant from Top Chef alum Eli Kirstein.

"Led by Founder and CEO Steven Salm and Co-founder and Executive Chef David Lee, PLANTA was born in 2016 to expand the accessibility and acceptability of plant based dining; dining as it should be — an unguilty pleasure.  Creating a premier hospitality collective of 100% plant-based restaurants, PLANTA reimagines, reinvents, and revitalizes, providing flavorful proof that the power of plants can change the world."

Originally launched in Toronto, PLANTA has today expanded to include a total of ten restaurants under four brands in Canada and the United States.  Each of the four restaurant brands shares a focus on inventive and incredibly tasty vegan fare, but in their own way.  PLANTA Cocina, focuses on Mexican dishes, Planta Burger, on plant-based burger options, with Planta Queen, an Asian themed concept.  PLANTA combines elements from the three niche concepts in a single menu.

In our visit, menu highlights included the Udon Noodles with truffle mushroom cream, cauliflower tots with lemon aioli and truffle almond Parmesan and a truffle and mushroom pizza.

A source at PLANTA tells ToNeTo Atlanta that the company has its eyes on a second Atlanta area location, potentially in Buckhead, and that both could open "very soon."  Ultimately the openings of restaurants are hard to predict in Atlanta lately given that permitting delays, a normal hurdle operators face, has now been joined by staffing and supply chain challenges.

Have you ever been to PLANTA?  Have you found yourself experimenting with healthier options in recent years?  What is your favorite vegetarian restaurant in metro Atlanta?

Please share your thoughts below.
