After several delays, a restaurant that has looked like it could open "any day now" has finally set its final opening date. We are pleased to confirm that Whataburger will make its metro Atlanta debut Monday November 28 at 705 Town Park Lane NW in Kennesaw. The Whataburger, on which ToNeTo Atlanta exclusively reported last August, replaced a shuttered O'Charley's not far from the campus of Kennesaw State University.
In addition to the Kennesaw location, Whataburger planned to open a restaurant on Highway 92 in Woodstock this fall but its opening has been pushed to early 2023. [ToNeTo Atlanta reported October 25 that Raising Cane's also plans to open a new location on Highway 92.] Six other restaurants, those planned for Buford, Cumming, Athens (2), Commerce and Dawsonville are reportedly still on track for 2023 openings.
Texas-based Whataburger publicly identified the aforementioned eight locations this past March. In the months since, ToNeTo Atlanta identified two addtional locations planned for metro Atlanta in Snellville and Winder. Most recently, we were also informed that new Whataburger is planned for Covington Town Center, a 180-acre mixed-use development in Newton County. Site plans for the Publix-anchored development indicate that the center will also welcome new locations of Panda Express, Dunkin', Freddy's Steakburgers, Arby's, Zaxby's, Huey Magoo's, in addition to Staybridge Suites, Courtyard and Residence Inn by Marriott.
Real estate sources tell ToNeTo Atlanta that Whataburger remains active in metro Atlanta and that several more locations are being considered.
Where would you [realistically] like to see Whataburger open next? What is your favorite menu item at Whataburger? Will you visit Whataburger Kennesaw on day 1?

on savoy drive along 285 in chamblee, where the indian restaurant burned down.
ReplyDeleteOMG, here comes all of the Whataburger groupies.
ReplyDeleteSharpsburg/Newnan area! Please!
ReplyDeleteI dont know why the new franchises - Whataburger, Cains, Culvers - dont consider locations inside the perimeter. There are numerous good locations where other businesses have failed.
ReplyDeletegood question. maybe real estate is cheaper in places like woodstock. maybe there's tax incentives.
DeleteI agree, we need one inside the Perimeter. They would get a lot of business.
DeleteChattooga tn
DeleteThink about Seneca S.C. area we need you
Deleteitp is very loyal to local businesses
DeleteYes I will visit Kennesaw, even though it’s a far drive. Douglas County, west side, Thornton Road area would be great.
DeleteWe need one in either Newnan GA or Peachtree City GA
DeleteDuluth
DeleteNot sure why this is always labeled "First Atlanta Area Location." The first Whataburger in the Atlanta area (since closed) was back in the early 90's, on McFarland Pkwy. at Atlanta Hwy., just north of Alpharetta. I believe that site is now a Dunkin Donuts.
ReplyDeleteThe old Whataburger/Hardees/biker bar is now a used car lot
DeleteI remember that restaurant in Alpharetta it was late 80. It would be a great location now...I would like one in Canton or Acworth Georgia..
DeleteWhataburger is company owned with No franchises. There has never been in one in the Atlanta area until now.
DeleteDouglasville and Carrollton could really use some of this Texas perfection. I'm dying for a double-double with jalapenos and their chocolate shake, thick as concrete and their onion rings.
ReplyDeleteDuluth
ReplyDeleteHope they hire properly or they are doomed!!! Gnowhaimsayin homies?
ReplyDeleteMy son said that about a new sonic here in Lagrange ga
Delete@Anon@12:22 - Land is cheaper OTP. Find success OTP and then they'll work their way ITP. See Zaxby's history.
ReplyDelete@Kid - Because no one cares that they had a location here 30 years ago. There are none now. Kennesaw will be the 1st. No one is eating at the Alpharetta location because it doesn't exist. Build a bridge and get over it.
Newnan Georgia
ReplyDeleteCanton, Georgia would be a great place to put one
ReplyDeleteBlueridge
ReplyDeleteOn North Druid Hills right in the heart of Atlanta between Midtown and Buckhead
ReplyDeleteIn Metro Atlanta area (Clayton County, Henry County)
ReplyDeleteKennesaw is not Atlanta. May as well said Whataburger coming half way to Macon.
ReplyDeleteSo happy Whataburger is finally coming into the Atlanta area, but why isn’t one being considered for the Southside? Especially Fayette and Coweta Counties just about 15 miles south of the world’s busiest airport and off I-85, a busy major interstate. Lots of new construction here and plenty of transplanted Texans who are so hopeful to be included in this expansion of their favorite places to eat. Please please please come south of Atlanta!
ReplyDeleteI drive 2 hours to Alabama for a Whataburger ♥️ I am from Texas and love me our Whataburger. Would like to see one open in Douglasville😋
ReplyDeleteGlorified Burger King 🤮
ReplyDeleteI will like to see one open up in the silver spring Md area and New York City area that will be great
ReplyDeleteSmyrna or Marietta would be great location
ReplyDelete
ReplyDeleteTotally not impressed. Another fast food, low quality meat burger place. Move over Steak n Shake, Freddies, Cookout, Culvers, Krystal. Don't understand the hype. Like a McDonalds.
The headline says it’s the first in the “Atlanta area” which would mean the Atlanta Metropolitan Area, of which Kennesaw and Cobb County are definitely part. I’d agree if had just said Atlanta it would be incorrect. People have such unusual notions when it comes to geography.
ReplyDeleteTaxes and crime are way too high ITP for Whataburger and other similar places to operate. Plus the ITP workforce is lazy and unskilled. Looks like you ITPers are stuck with vegan pizza and impossible "meats"
ReplyDeleteRight, all restaurants ITP will be closing soon because of that. Then there will just be tall buildings and wind and dust.
DeleteLoganville Ga
ReplyDeleteThey are opening up in Monroe by the new Publix, that should be close enough for you or Snellville, Covington and Winder
Delete@CloseOTP: "Kennesaw will be the 1st."
ReplyDeleteFalse. The first one was 30 or so years ago. Using your logic, Truist Park is the first Atlanta Braves stadium.
Ate there in Pensacola, FL, it was 😖 awful.
ReplyDeleteCartersville, of course!
ReplyDeleteStockbridge and McDonough Ga would be areas to consider
ReplyDeleteWhy doesen't anything come to Dehlonega, we need stores here to.
ReplyDeleteLoganville
ReplyDeleteOpen one in the shuttered McDonald’s located on Jett Ferry Rd. in Dunwoody. This part of Dunwoody/north Sandy Springs has no QSRs other than our Chick-fil-A. Love CFA, but we need options.
ReplyDeleteagreed
DeleteAlready all yall Texas boys know what the deal is. Glad to see some taste of the 3rd coast coming this way...Jack in the Box is next. I will support Whataburger any day. Grew up on it. Thanks for coming to Ga
ReplyDeleteTastes the same as Sonic IMO.
ReplyDeleteWith explosive growth in the Dallas area, I would think that Whataburger would do an amazing amount of business. We are saturated with Mexican restaurants and the usual fast burger restaurants.
ReplyDeleteCantón,GA No competition there
ReplyDeleteMarietta (west) or Smyrna area!
ReplyDeleteStone Mountain GA off HWY 78. There is a closed down krystal that could be converted. Its 2 buildings down from a huge condominium project going up. Also Lilburn area has quite a few spots
ReplyDeleteCartersville and Calhoun would definitely make great locations on I75 between Kennesaw and Chattanooga. I love the Chicken Honey Butter biscuit for breakfast and Triple Whataburger with that awesome Whataburger Ketchup and a hot apple pie to finish it off!
ReplyDeleteThank You
William and Rebecca Stevens
Cartersville, GA
Kennesaw location has STILL not open
ReplyDeleteWhataburger tastes exactly the same as Sonic. That’s cool if you like Sonic, but otherwise there’s nothing to get excited about here.
ReplyDeleteUnion City Georgia
ReplyDeleteTucker GA
ReplyDeleteNeed one in the Peachtree City, Sharpsburg, Newnan Ga area!
ReplyDeleteNeed one at the airport so people all over the world will know how great WB is!
ReplyDeleteDouglasville hwy 92 or Hwy 5
