[Update] Whataburger to Open Soon in Kennesaw, More to Come in 2023, Others Delayed

Whataburger provided an update this week on its planned opening in Kennesaw slated for Monday November 28.  The restaurant, located just off Chastain Road at 705 Town Park Lane NW, will open for drive-thru service only at 11am.    In addition, the San Antonio, Texas-based chain with a cult-like following also revealed eight other locations it plans to open in 2023.  While the list was largely the same as a list it announced in March, ToNeTo Atlanta noted multiple changes too.

Whataburger restaurants planned for 3321 Lexington Road in Athens and 100 Pottery Road in Commerce were both removed from the updated list with a company representative telling ToNeTo Atlanta that they are both still "in the works," but have been pushed beyond 2023.

Added to the list were locations ToNeTo Atlanta previously announced in Snellville and Covington as well as a new location planned for Monroe.  The Monroe Whataburger will open at 900 Pavilion Parkway, where it will occupy an outparcel of Monroe Pavilion, a new shopping center that welcomed a new Publix earlier this year.

The initial eight locations the company plans to open in 2023 are:

9766 GA-92, Woodstock, GA 30188

503 Lakeland Plaza, Cumming, GA 30040

2925 Buford Drive, Buford, GA 30519

900 Pavilion Parkway, Monroe, GA 30656

10106 Alcovy Road, Covington, GA 30014

3201 Atlanta Highway, Athens, GA 30606

Scenic Highway N & North Road SW, Snellville, GA 30078

15 Wallace Boulevard, Dawsonville, GA 30534

According to a Whataburger spokesperson, the Kennesaw and Woodstock restaurants will be company owned, while several of the others will be operated by franchise partner Made to Order Holdings.  In total, the company plans to open ten locations in the greater metro Atlanta area in 2023 and 50 over the next seven years.

Made to Order Holdings is controlled by Travis Goff of Goff Capital, a family office.   Through his company Crescent Real Estate, LLC, Goff's father, billionaire John C. Goff, owns more than a dozen hotels across the country, including The Hotel at Avalon in Alpharetta and the Kimpton Brice Hotel in Savannah.  While the Goff family is based in Fort Worth, Texas, and is therefore quite familiar with Whataburger, Made to Order Holdings seems to be their first foray into the Whataburger franchise system.

Will you be at Whataburger Kennesaw on day 1?  What is your favorite Whataburger menu item?  Where else in the greater metro Atlanta area would you like to see Whataburger open?

3...2...1... for the following comment: None of these are IN Atlanta. Me, I'm excited for Kennesaw. Is it a trip for me? Sure. Will I be going day 1 or regularly? No. But it's better than waiting to eat there when I go to TX!
