Shipley Do-Nuts, makers of gourmet, made-fresh-daily do-nuts, has finally brought its do-nuts to Georgia. Metro Atlanta's first franchise opened March 20th at 3225 Keith Bridge Road in Cumming in Forsyth County. The shop is locally owned and operated by Oziel “Ozzie” Rodriguez and his wife Brenda, who also own Coal Mountain Package Store and Palapas Bar and Grill, also in Forsyth County.
"Founded in 1936 in Houston, Shipley Do-Nuts is beloved throughout the South for its more than 60 varieties of fresh, hot do-nuts, as well as kolaches (savory breakfast rolls filled with meat, typically sausage), hot coffee and cold brew. Its signature glazed do-nuts, famous for their unique hexagon shape that creates a lighter, fluffier texture and a glaze that provides just the right amount of sweetness, are by far the brand’s bestseller"
"We’ve had Georgia on our mind for quite some time at Shipley, and opening our first location in the state is an important milestone for us,” said Shipley CEO Clifton Rutledge. “Ozzie knows this community very well, and we are confident that he’ll create a loyal following for Shipley in Forsyth County.”
As opposed to Dunkin', where doughnuts are made at at a centralized "baking facility" and trucked in the night before, do-nuts at Shipley are reportedly made fresh in store each day. This alone should help separate them from their competitors, like Dunkin’, which in the case of Cumming, operates an existing outpost a stone's throw away.
ToNeTo Atlanta first reported on Shipley's planned Atlanta area arrival this past April at which point the first area location was to have opened this past fall on Pleasant Hill Road in Duluth. (We reported on the first delay and addition of the Cumming outpost this past December) This location - 4165 Pleasant Hill Road in a former Taco Bell/Pizza Hut - is still moving forward but has been delayed until late in the second quarter or early in the third quarter of this year, according to a company spokesperson.
The Duluth location is being opened by Dallas, Texas-based ARFD Foods, LLC, operated by Andrew Robertson and Franklin Diaz, who signed an agreement to open up to 25 Shipley Do-Nuts locations in Georgia. For his part, Rodriguez, operating as Sweet Donuts Investments Inc., plans to open a total of five Shipley Do-Nuts locations in the greater Atlanta area in the years to come.
The 1,510-square-foot Cumming shop features a drive-thru, online ordering and delivery service. Shipley is open from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
Have you ever been to Shipley Do-Nuts? Which Texas impost are you more excited about: Whataburger or Shipley Do-Nuts? Where else in metro Atlanta would you like to see Shipley Do-Nuts open?

Shirley’s was my childhood donut shop!! Yum!
There is a lot of utility and road construction work in the area, be prepared for slow traffic in that area.

Loved these from my childhood in MS! Definitely needed in Stone Mountain-Lilburn area.
Always get Shipley's when we go to Mississippi and so glad to have one 10-12 miles away. Only donut that is still so good a day old! Now Whataburger just needs to open in Cumming. Also.wish wish we had our Palapas back.
A 3rd vite for Woodstock, or Kennesaw/Marietta. Texas has so many donut places that make vastly superior donuts over Dunkin.
Marietta! Bring on the Kilaches!
I lived in Houston for six years and love ❤️ Shipley’s donuts. Bring it on!

Oh no. I love their stuff. I live in Suwanee Georgia and when I traveled to Birmingham Alabama I would always go to the Shipley there and bring them back home. Dangerous donuts! So good. There goes the diet.

Milledgeville GA would like to have one here. We have a wonderful College here that would benefit from your pastries.
Do you people actually believe that by you sending a response that says "Woodtock!" or "Covington!" etc that the company is going to run out and acquire land in your town. Are you 12 years old?
75% of the responses on this board are the same - some dolt yelling out a city name.
Love Shipley Donuts they are the absolute best!!!!!! Can't wait to be able to get them here i have missed being able to get them since moving here
Athens Georgia
Yes we definitely need one in Covington
I love their donuts growing up
Please open one in Newnan GA, fantastic area for this Shipleys
They're a franchise, if you want one in your town, feel free to reach out to the company and pony up the cash and fill out the requirements and open one and whatever city you wish 🙂 looking forward to giving them a try, tried them in Texas once and they were very good!

I used to frequent the location in Killeen Texas when I was stationed in Fort Hood Texas... And let me tell you the doughnuts were very good... I wish the owners would really consider Stockbridge and McDonough Areas to open up a store.Because it's been about 15 years since I last had 1 from Shipley doughnuts.

99 comments and only two references to the kolaches! A doughnut is a donut is a do-nut, but it will be great to have kolaches close by!

I would much rather see Shipley’s come to Newnan than the Whataburger coming to town!

We need a Shirley’s in McDonough!
NO! Another crime scene!!! Solve the ever worsening ghetto problem!!!
Shipley’s was my local childhood donut shop in Jackson, MS in the late 1970s and early 1980s, and I am following their current success in Ridgeland, MS. If they open a store in GA, I will be there! Wonderful memories!
