[EXCLUSIVE] Velvet Taco Taking its "Tacos Without Borders" Beyond The Perimeter

Dallas, Texas-based Velvet Taco plans to go OTP for their third Atlanta area location.  A real estate source as well as an employee at one of the chain's existing Atlanta area locations tell ToNeTo Atlanta that the company will open in 2024 at High Street in Dunwoody.

The new restaurant will open as part of the mixed-use development that is currently under construction at the corner of Hammond Drive and Perimeter Center Parkway, across from Perimeter Mall, the Dunwoody MARTA station and the sprawling State Farm campus.

The new location will join the company's original Atlanta outpost at Buckhead Market Place on West Paces Ferry Road in Buckhead which opened in 2019 and their second outpost at The Interlock along Howell Mill Road in West Midtown, which opened in 2021.

Velvet Taco - which proudly promotes its restaurants as offering "tacos without borders" - features a wide variety of taco options including the Nashville hot tofu, Cuban pig, Kobe bacon burger, fish 'n chip and the chicken & waffle, a brunch favorite that is served all day.  The quick-serve restaurant also offers their version of loaded tots (tots with herb goat cheese, smoked cheddar, avocado crema, chile butter, peppered bacon, micro greens) and "Kick Ass" Margaritas, on the rocks or frozen, among other offerings.

The restaurant also features a "WTF" or Weekly Taco Feature, a rotating weekly special taco that changes each week.

The Dunwoody Velvet Taco will be about 2,200 square feet and be situated along Perimeter Center Parkway.  Clay Dover, President of Velvet Taco, told ToNeTo Atlanta in 2019 that the company is bullish on the Atlanta market and sees the opportunity for as many as eight Velvet Taco restaurants in metro Atlanta in the years to come.

[Torchy's Tacos, another Texas-based taco joint that had begun their Atlanta real estate search pre-pandemic, has reportedly restarted their quest and has several sites under consideration.]

At High Street, Velvet Taco joins previously announced eateries Agave Bandido, Cuddlefish, and Ben & Jerry’s, as well as new locations of Puttshack and The Hampton Social.

Phase 1 of High Street is expected to include 150,000 square feet of retail and restaurants, approximately 600 apartments, and approximately 90,000 square feet of new loft office space, all connected by a 3/4 acre public park.

Restaurants and retailers in High Street are expected to begin to open in the second quarter of 2024.
