[CLOSURE ALERT] Korean BBQ Seems to Have Shuttered at Suburban Mall

It appears that Breakers Korean BBQ has shuttered its outpost at Perimeter Mall in Dunwoody.  The restaurant, which opened at the suburban mall in April 2019, reportedly closed as of August 7 to complete "a roof replacement," according to a customer who tried visiting the restaurant Sunday.  A ToNeTo Atlanta reader who visited the restaurant Wednesday reports that there is now signage that reads "Temporary closed for maintenance" but there is no indication any work has or/will take place.

When the Dunwoody restaurant opened, it was the sixth overall for the chain.  The chain was started by entrepreneurs Bobby Kim and his son David in 2015 with their first location in Duluth near Gwinnett Place Mall.  The Gwinnett Place location closed this past fall which followed the closures of others in Frisco and Carrollton, Texas.  Another outpost (like the Dunwoody location) is marked "temporarily closed" on Google but local sources tell ToNeTo Atlanta the restaurant is, in fact, closed for good.

The Breakers website displays the following message: "BREAKERS BBQ, REIMAGINED. Welcome to the new Breakers site, a family of Korean BBQ experts focused on providing the best in Korean BBQ."

According to the website, one location remains open at Fair Oaks Mall in Fairfax, Virginia.

When Breakers opened at Perimeter Mall, it replaced what has most recently been The Pub, and before that, an outpost of Hudson Grille, and originally, Garrison's Broiler & Tap.  (Hudson Grille and Garrison's were both concepts of Atlanta-based Metrotainment Cafes).

In the years since Breakers debut, Perimeter Mall has welcomed several new eateries including 26 Thai, P.F. Chang's, Lazy Dog, Buffalo Wild Wings and soon, Incredible Burger, in the food court.  A planned opening of Doc B's, a new to market Houston's-like restaurant, is reportedly still moving forward but has been slowed by both inflation elevated construction costs and higher interest rates.

Are you surprised to see Breakers close at Perimeter Mall?  What would you like to see open in place of Breakers at Perimeter Mall?  What is your favorite Dunwoody area restaurant?

no koreans. no surprise. duluth is a crucible for kbbq but it's the only geographic location in metro atlanta that can sustain this type of business. also watch out for "top korean bbq & hot pot" nearby.

I’m not surprised they went out of business. I went to Breakers a couple of times. My first visit was very good. My second visit was lousy due to inattentive staff who didn’t bother to come to our table. We were seated and then ignored even though the restaurant had only three other tables with customers sitting at their tables. None of the tables had food, and the grills hadn’t been turned on yet. We left and never went back. I would like to see a great bbq place go into that space.

The one in Duluth closed too so I would say the problem is Breakers and not a lack of Koreans.

People still go to malls? I wouldn't be caught dead going to one. Too many guns thank to the Republican apocalypse

@Anonymous - most of the Korean BBQ customers aren't Korean. That's why the ones in Doraville have been open for over 30 years (Han Il Kwan and Hae Woon Dae). Many KBBQ outside of Duluth are doing well (Marietta, Midtown, Cumming, Alpharetta, etc). Breakers issue is there is too much KBBQ competition and they try to make it more high end dining. Most people don't go to KBBQ looking for that. By the way if you want the best KBBQ in Atlanta, get the Boneless Short Rib and Marinated Short Rib at CowWow in Suwanee. Their meat is the best quality out of any KBBQ outside of Korea.

The Top Korean BBQ just around the corner is excellent and was packed when I drove by the other night. I highly recommend it.

Several years ago I went to lunch with the top Korean business folks in Atlanta and We went to Han Il Kwan. I think I was the only non-Korean in there that day. The food was good and it is apparently authentic.

@silly anonymous commenter above: you shouldn't have any concern because murdering someone is strcitly outlawed so problem solved as far as Dems are concerned.

I’m not surprised. I wasn’t impressed when we went.

Too many competitions. Really gotta raise the bar to stand out. Especially, with the ones with both kbbq and hot pot together opening crazy this year.

I actually was in the mall last Saturday to walk, and came upon this restaurant's interior entrance. There were numerous people lined up to get in, and they were getting impatient, since the restaurant was virtually empty. Guess they were short staffed on their last night. That location is somewhat doomed.

^^^ those legacy kbbq spots exist because their rent is dirt cheap. also look at miss gogi in the hmart shopping center --- no way it would still exist thus far without the landlord's goodwill from the initial buildout pre-covid; same stories for other tenants in the same center. i wish for everyone's success and will gladly eat a crow, but all parties will come to terms with reality when its time to renew terms.

I still visit malls, maybe not as much, but still go. While I doubt the folks doing the shooting even vote I'll bet if they did it wouldn't be for Republicans. Just sayin...

Lol. Found the Ol Sniffy voter.

I assure you that the vast majority of people in that mall with a gun vote Democrat.
