[EXCLUSIVE] Former Chastain Park Pizza Shop to Become Surprising New Business

The former Rosati's Chicago Pizza at 4629 Wieuca Road in Chastain Park will soon be demolished to make way for a car wash.  Building permits filed with the City of Atlanta confirm that BamBoo Car Wash plans to open a new car wash facility on the site of the former Rosati's and the former Fabricare dry cleaners (4621 Wieuca Road) next door.  Together the two parcels total just over an acre.

Rosati's opened in the second generation restaurant building - originally a Dairy Queen - in 2017, and closed in early 2022.  The building was heavily damaged this past Christmas when a fire broke out at the abandoned building.

The site is a bit of an odd choice for a car wash as it's off the main road (Roswell Road) and as a result does not have the visibility or accessibility one might think would be important for such a business.

Georgia-based BamBoo Car Wash currently operates a pair of locations in Dawsonville and Gainesville, the former built from scratch, the latter a conversion.  The company previously operated a third facility on Pleasant Hill Road in Duluth but sold the location to Mister Cash Wash (NYSE: MCW) last April.  Online records also indicate that the businesses owner, Judd Hughes, previously operated the car wash facilities under the Extreme Car Wash name before adopting the BamBoo moniker.

BamBoo is like many other car wash facilities that have in recent years popped up around metro Atlanta offering a "wash club" membership, a la carte wash services, as well as offering free vacuums.  The business is self-service as opposed to Avril's, a popular local business at the corner of Wieuca and Roswell Roads that offers full-service washes and detailing and has been a neighborhood mainstay for more than four decades.

Real estate sources told ToNeTo Atlanta in 2022 that there were plans for a residential project on the combined Chastain Park area parcels and it's unclear what led to the change in development plans.  That said, neighbors to whom we spoke seemed less than thrilled at the prospect of having a big new car wash move in.  The property sits feet away from the line separating the City of Sandy Springs from the City of Atlanta.

What are your thoughts on the planned development of BamBoo Car Wash in Chastain Park?  Do you think the site makes sense for a car wash? If not, what kind of development do you think makes more sense for the site?

Please share your thoughts below.

  2. Off the main road, it will fail like every other business in that location.

  3. Keep it just like it is, burnt and closed buildings. No traffic!

  4. Awful, esp. next to the Blue Heron preserve where run off could pollute the ground water. Not to mention traffic, noise pollution, and water waste.

    1. I don’t think you realize how advanced the water recycling technology is at modern car washes.

    2. Car washes are required to have extensive wastewater reclamation capabilities.

    3. It’s pretty far from Blue Heron. But….there are so many car washes in the area already.

  5. PERFECT. Chastain residents too lazy and spoiled to wash their own cars.

  6. Love it. Car washes have become unaffordable around here. Need 2 or 3 more in the area to drive prices down.

  7. Put on a Whaterburger instead!

  8. Terrible and not even business smart! There is no way they did a business study and thought this would be successful! There are 4 car washes with a 5 minute walking distance with loyal customers. You can’t even see it from the main road

  9. Horrible idea. Bad logistically, not to mention there are two hand wash places right across the street and next to Dunkin 0.2 miles away, and another down the street on Roswell less than 2 miles away. Car washes are becoming like nail salons

    1. But, have you ever sat in line for an hour at Avril? They will get business from their spillover.

  10. Hard to believe that this property is zoned for such a business. It will be a traffic hell-hole.

  12. I do miss the pizza establishment and the dey cleaners.

The cleaners were my go to place for all dry cleaning. They had excellent service and found it strange that they closed up in an abrupt manner.

As to a car wash wishing them good luck, my guess is the land didn't come cheep.

  14. Man, I wish it was at least going to be a hand-washing operation. That Avrils has become trash -- my car comes out dirtier than it went in sometimes.

  17. This is the old Wallis Kamera Haus location (in the 70s and 80s). Then became a restaurant called 'Durango'...then 'Toyota Ya' sushi later in the 90s...then 'Twisted Taco' a few years later...then 'Chastain Tavern'...then Rosati's pizza...

  20. Cas washes, abandoned Office Depot buildings, abandoned shoe stores. Buckhead has really gone down hill. The smart people have already moved out to better parts of town.

  21. Ugh. That is the last thing we need.

  22. A Car Wash that loses money and goes under is a perfect way to launder cash. Not that that’s their plan.

  23. A Food Service Establishment to complement / compete with the two adjacent establishments seems a better use.

  24. The city of Atlanta doesn't seem to care at all about the quality of life of it's citizens. I moved out of Atlanta and this carwash gave me the push I needed to leave. Why not put a business there that will actually be enjoyable to live near and will be used by the community. There are already plenty of carwashes on roswell rd.

  25. I'm curious to know if ROSATI'S owned or leased the property. Looks like a franchise
And had business declined to be forced to close?

  27. We don’t need a car wash, we need more restaurants! Awful spot for a car wash!

  28. After seeing that the long-standing, Two Minit "Gorilla" Car Wash is now charging $30 for a basic wash, places like this are looking pretty good.

  29. Would love to see somewhere with live music/ brewery! Too many car washes and pizza places in such a small radius.
