[EXCLUSIVE] Tim Hortons Secures Space for Latest Suburban Shop, Atlanta Outpost Pushed to Spring

ToNeTo Atlanta has learned that metro Atlanta is getting at least one more Tim Hortons, but its location is not as close to intown Atlanta as some may hope.  The new Tim Hortons is planned along Peachtree Parkway in Suwanee.  Local franchisee Tushar Patel plans to build a new ground-up Tim Hortons on a one acre site across from Celebration Village Forsyth, a 52 acre retirement community.

Tim Hortons, based in Canada where it's most well-known and has the most locations, was owned by Wendy's from 1995 until 2006, and after some time as a public company, was acquired in 2014 by Burger King and Popeyes owner Restaurant Brands International (RBI).

The Canadian staple is known for its coffee, donuts and breakfast sandwiches, among other offerings.

The company made their Georgia debut this past June with an outpost along Veterans Parkway in Columbus.  The Columbus location opened to significant fanfare, but customers are seemingly not impressed, with many on Yelp and Google complaining of inaccurate orders, inattentive staff and disappointing food.  The restaurant has an overall two star rating on Yelp and a slightly better 3.7 on Google.

Abid Khutliwala, the franchisee of the Columbus restaurant also pitched an 888 square foot drive-thru only unit along State Bridge Road in Johns Creek that was panned by neighbors.

Other locations are reportedly in the works at Tara Boulevard and Edgemoor Avenue in Jonesboro, Highway 34 and Posey Road in Newnan and another at 610 Spring Street in Midtown where it will share space with an existing BP.  The Midtown outpost, which was previously supposed to have opened earlier this fall, is reportedly now expected to open in May, according to an employee at BP.

Tushar Patel of McDonough-based Royal Seven, a holding company that operates several franchises, is opening the Suwanee restaurant.

The company announced in March it plans to open at least 30 Georgia locations over the next five years.

Have you ever been to Tim Hortons?  If so, was it in Columbus?  Where else would you like to see Tim Hortons open?
