A Florida-based taco joint which abruptly closed its two metro Atlanta area locations as well as multiple locations in its home market, has opened a new location in Newnan. Capital Tacos, which closed its Atlanta area locations in Johns Creek and Peachtree Corners in early March, both after less than a year in business, opened a new restaurant in Newnan on March 30.
The Newnan location, situated in a 2,500 square foot former Moe's Southwest Grill in an endcap of Newnan Promenade 1111 GA-34 (Bullsboro Drive) was originally expected to be a corporate location, but opened as a franchise instead. The franchisee, Kat Allen, owns "a successful servicing company" and found Capital Tacos to be the "perfect opportunity to embark on her next venture," according to a post from Raintree, a franchise development business.
In just the first few days of operation, the Newnan restaurant has received more than 50 reviews on Google with most seemingly either really good (5 star) or really bad (1 star) and not much in the middle. The restaurant has an overall rating of 4.0. Ownership replied to some of the negative reviews where in many cases they indicated that visits were made during their "soft opening period of time" and that the "restaurant is not officially open just yet." Unfortunately, as the saying goes, "you never get a second chance at a first impression" and like it or not, the moment a customer pays you a dime, they are expecting stellar food to be worth their time and their dime.
Operating a new franchise in a new market is not for the faint of heart, but Allen must also contend with turmoil at the corporate office, which may result in new challenges. Capital Tacos Holdings, LLC, the Florida-based owner of the brand, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in Florida on March 15.
The company's website indicates that there are currently just five locations open: three in Florida, Newnan, and one in Colorado. The website suggests single units are still "coming soon" to New Jersey, Oklahoma, and Tennessee.
Are you surprised to see Capital Tacos continue to expand? Have you been to the Capital Tacos in Newnan? What is your favorite taco joint?

Being a former manager at Capital Tacos I’m definitely surprised people are still going through with franchise agreements seeing corporate couldn’t last
Not surprised at all. Corporate owners of Capital Tacos, James Marcus and Josh Lugar lies to potential franchisees about sales, boost numbers and sell franchises so they can take the money and run. Why franchisees are still opening this failed company is beyond me.
