Independently owned, sustainably sourced, luxury bedding company Boll & Branch will open a new store at Avenue East Cobb, according to plans reviewed by ToNeTo Atlanta. The new store would mark the second for the brand in Atlanta and only the eighth overall for the New Jersey-based company.
Boll & Branch is taking the remaining space at the property beside Barnes & Noble that the bookseller did not occupy following the closure of former anchor Bed Bath & Beyond. A review of site plans and leasing materials suggests the new bedding store will be about 6,000 square feet.
The company is also opening a roughly 2,600 square foot store at Westside Provisions District (1100 Howell Mill Road) in West Midtown. A Google page indicates the West Midtown store is expected to open September 20.
The brand's offerings include bedding, pillows, throws, blankets, towels, and robes. Boll & Branch introduced its "luxury mattress" which uses wool, coils and organic cotton in 2018, and entered the furniture business with dressers, nightstands, and benches this past fall.
The company's core offerings are its organic cotton bed linens, blankets, and bath towels, and they are the first maker of such goods to be certified by Fair Trade USA.
Husband and wife Missy and Scott Tannen founded the business in January 2014 and were initially an ecommerce only (DTC) brand. The first brick & mortar store opened in October 2018 at The Mall at Short Hills in Short Hills, New Jersey, about fifteen minutes from the company's headquarters in Summit.
In the years since the Shorts Hills debut, the company has opened five additional stores in The Grove at Shrewsbury (Shrewsbury, NJ), Highland Village (Houston), Knox Street (Dallas), Greenwich Avenue (Greenwich, CT) and Town Center at Boca Raton.
Initially self-funded, the company's more recent growth has been fueled by a series of outside investments, including a 2019 $100 million investment by multi-billion dollar private equity firm L Catterson whose stakes currently span restaurant, retail, medical, clothing pet food, grocery and more.
At the Avenue East Cobb, Boll & Branch joins fellow home and lifestyle brands Williams Sonoma and Pottery Barn and along with quick serve chicken chain Super Chix and vegan cosmetics and personal care brand eLo, is among a growing list of upcoming tenant openings.
A source close to the property tells ToNeTo Atlanta that Boll & Branch is hoping to be open before the end of the year but given the glacial pace at which commercial construction seems to progress in metro Atlanta, that may be wishful thinking.
Have you heard of Boll & Branch? Are you pleased by the recent changes and updates at the Avenue East Cobb? What other types of retailers, restaurants or service providers would you like to see open in the Avenue East Cobb?
