[EXCLUSIVE] Bocado 3.0 to Make its Debut Soon in Sandy Springs

A familiar restaurant is resurfacing in Sandy Springs.  Bocado, from owner Brian Lewis, is coming soon to Powers Ferry Village, a Publix-anchored shopping center at the corner of Northside Drive and Powers Ferry Road, just off I-285.

The restaurant, which will be smaller and different from its predecessors, will occupy a 1,200 square foot space previously home to a Blimpie sub shop for many years.

Lewis, a serial restaurateur, has operated several restaurants in Atlanta and Alpharetta over the years, the most recent of which, also called Bocado, closed earlier this January at Avalon.  In Alpharetta, the restaurant opened as Bocado Burger in 2014 before rebranding as simply "Bocado" in 2022.  The original Bocado opened on Atlanta's Westside in 2009 and racked up several awards including "Best New Restaurant" (Atlanta Magazine) and "Best Burger in Atlanta" (Creative Loafing), among other accolades.  Lewis closed the Westside restaurant in 2021.

No reason was given for the decision to close Bocado in Alpharetta after ten years, but a December 2023 Instagram announcement regarding the closure did indicate news of a Sandy Springs location was expected in "early 2024."

In addition to the two Bocado restaurants, Lewis also previously operated STG Trattoria near the St. Regis in Buckhead, Al Forno's, a take & bake pizza shop in Midtown, and Amer, a craft cocktail bar in Inman Park.

Bocado 3.0 will take elements from prior iterations and concepts and deliver them in a smaller, neighborhood-centric package.  The new Bocado will reportedly feature primarily pizza with dine-in and take & bake options available.  There will also be a nice new patio added to the space.

Sources close to the property tell ToNeTo Atlanta that Lewis wants to open later this fall.

Are you excited about the opening of Bocado in Sandy Springs?  What other kinds of restaurants would you like to see open in the area?  What type of restaurant food do you think metro Atlanta has too much of?

Well a buddy told me this week about Bocado being a great burger joint, and that this location was opening near his house. I thought I'd be interested in checking out, but I don't care about another quick serve pizza joint, so this will not be on my radar at all.

So you won't go to try their burgers because they also serve pizza? LOL

Is Bocado Spanish for hookah? If not, no bueno.

Yeah, I...don't get this at all. The Bocado brand is that of a gastropub that happens to have an amazing burger as well. "Primarily a pizza joint" seems insane to me.

I wouldn't go to a burger joint to eat pizza.

The previous Bocado restaurants did great burgers, ground and made on site with the buns also baked fresh on site. I am excited to try the pizza’s as expect high quality ingredients and maybe something a little different.

Sounds exciting to me and will definitely give it a try. With that many amazing restaurants owned by Lewis it will most probably be great!

Yikes that’s a hidden location. Am old enough to remember that Blimpie opening when I lived nearby. Have been a Bocado fan at both locations and expect the food to be excellent but the hidden spot? Dunno.
