Office Depot will soon close its store at the Edgewood Retail District (1205 Caroline Street) just south of Little Five Points in Atlanta. The store, located in a freestanding building within the sprawling shopping center, is physically located along Moreland Avenue near co-anchor Kroger.
The center's site plan does not indicate the store's size, but industry sources suggest the Office Depot is between 15,000 and 20,000 square feet. Although the store does have good visibility, it shares parking with Kroger and other smaller tenants nearby, likely limiting its attractiveness to potential replacement users.
According to store employees, the Office Depot is slated to close around Father's Day, June 15, but ultimately the timing will depend on sales velocity.
Edgewood Retail District was developed by Jeff Fuqua, then of The Sember Company, replacing the former headquarters of Atlanta Gas Light. It is today anchored by Lowe's, Best Buy, Target, Petco, and ROSS, as well as the aforementioned Kroger, Burlington, and Marshalls.
Boca Raton-based Office Depot, which merged with rival retailer OfficeMax in 2013, has in recent years closed several stores around metro Atlanta including those in Toco Hills (North Druid Hills Road), Buckhead (Piedmont Road), Snellville (Scenic Highway), Smyrna (Cobb Parkway), Tucker (Henderson Mill Road), East Cobb (Sandy Plains Road), Chamblee (Peachtree Boulevard), Stone Mountain (Memorial Drive), and Sandy Springs (Roswell Road), among others.
Following the closure, Office Depot will operate only a handful of locations in metro Atlanta including The District at Howell Mill, where Wayfair plans to become the center's new anchor in 2026, and Perimeter Pointe in Sandy Springs (which is currently for sale and could be redeveloped).
Are you pleased with the recent additions to Edgewood Retail District? What would you like to see open in place of Office Depot? When was the last time you visited an office supply store like Office Depot?

this would be a good place that sells nothing but holders of a popular hot beverage, 'Coffeepot'. Or maybe a massive haircut place, 'Coiffed'.
ReplyDeleteOr a place that sells only hygenie items called “wypez”
DeleteBarnes & Noble is back to expansion mode in smaller spaces and this would make a great return location for the city's east side.
ReplyDeleteIt's good this center still attracts tenants. By today's standards it is doing great. As for office supply stores I still go to Staples in Tucker. It's seems to do an ok business.
