[CLOSING TIME] Office Depot in Tucker Will No Longer Be "Taking Care of Business"

In a move that by all accounts was pre-planned and has nothing to do with the recent COVID-19 pandemic, the Office Depot store at Briarcliff Village shopping center near Tucker is closing.  The store, which co-anchors the center also home to Publix and TJ Maxx, among others, is slated to close as of May 16, according to materials reviewed by ToNeTo Atlanta.  The Office Depot store is nearly 26,000 square feet, far larger than the chain's current format which is closer to 20,000 square feet.

For the time being, the store is open for both in-store shopping and curbside pick-up.

Office Depot marks the second mass market chain retailer to close in the Northlake area in just the past few months, following the closure earlier this month of Ace Hardware of Briarlake.  Entrepreneur Brian Hage opened the Ace franchise off LaVista Road behind Popeyes in late 2018, but never gained the following he needed to keep the store in business.

OfficeMax, now part of Office Depot, closed its Northlake area store in Northlake Festival several years ago, with its former space today occupied by a Goodwill thrift store & donation center.

Given Briarcliff Village is in a far better position now than Northlake Festival was then, or is now, there is good reason to believe that whatever does replace Office Depot will be something more high profile than a thrift store.

Following Office Depot's closure, the only office supply store in the Tucker/Northlake area will be a Staples at 4351 Hugh Howell Rd in Tucker, about three and half miles away.  Office Depot also continues to operate a store at Toco Hills shopping center, among others in metro Atlanta.

Are you surprised to see Office Depot at Briarcliff Village close?  What would you like to see open in Office Depot's space at Briarcliff Village?  What activity do you miss most while practicing "social distancing" and working from home?

Please share your thoughts below.

Who in the hell shops in Office supply stores anymore? 😂 Best Buy maybe expensive but even them are more relevant than Office Depot and Office Max! 😅

I'm sorry to hear Office Depot is closing. It was convenient to be able to stop by and get paper, ink, boxes, etc. I will most likely start going to the Toco Hills location instead.

Bad location plus rude uncaring staff plus messy unorganized store equals failure in today's market.

This would be a great location for Trader Joes!
