[ALERT] Sugar Loaf to Debut First Brick & Mortar Cafe in Reynoldstown

A new eatery is coming soon to Reynoldstown!  Sugar Loaf, a local breakfast and lunch cafe and bakery, recently signed on to open at Modera Reynoldstown (780 Memorial Drive, Suite 1A).

The new eatery will open in place of Chick 'n Cone, a strange franchise that previously closed in the 1,760 square foot space.

Sugar Loaf started in 2020 when husband and wife Nebiyu and Lindsay Berhane left New York and relocated to metro Atlanta.  The business debuted in 2021 as a pop-up at local farmers' markets like the Piedmont Park Green Market and Grant Park Farmer's Market.

The eatery does not get its name from Sugarloaf Parkway, err, well, not completely:

"Sugar Loaf is the manifestation of a long time dream of ours since we first started dating. The name pays homage to our roots. Lindsay grew up on Sugarloaf Court in Virginia, and Nebi grew up in Georgia, not far from local landmarks like Sugarloaf parkway. We met working as professional dancers, and shared a love for cooking and baking instilled in us from our mothers, and a deep connection to our Albanian and Ethiopian heritages."

The business and its traditional and gluten-free biscuits and biscuit sandwiches, Liège waffles, an award-winning smash burger, assorted cookies and cakes, and other goodies, proved popular enough that the couple felt a brick-and-mortar shop was needed.

According to the eatery's website, Lindsay will serve as General Manager while Nebiyu will serve as Executive Chef.

At Modera Reynoldstown, Sugar Loaf will join, when it plans to open late this year, existing eateries such as La Semilla, a Latin plant-based table service restaurant, and Tropical Smoothie Cafe, a quick-serve smoothie franchise.

Have you had goodies from Sugar Loaf at local farmers' markets? If so, what has been your favorite item? Are you excited for the opening of Sugar Loaf in Reynoldstown?

Congrats to them, love that name, but I'll never go to anything at Modera Reynoldstown again - their parking deck situation is atrocious. Both times I've been to La Semilla, which were not close together AT ALL, I've experienced problems with exiting the deck. The machine doesn't seem to want to take the validated tickets provided by La Semilla. A line of cars often forms as everyone experiences this same issue, so then we're all just sitting there idling. The second time, in order to just be able to exit the parking deck, I decided to throw my hands in the air and pay the "lost ticket" rate even though I had the validated ticket in my hand and had tried to feed it into the machine a few times.
