[EXCLUSIVE] Labubu Maker POP MART to Open at Cumberland Mall

POP MART has at least one more location on tap for metro Atlanta.  On the heels of ToNeTo Atlanta's exclusive report in August that the popular toy company would open their first Georgia store at Perimeter Mall in Dunwoody comes news that they will also open at Cumberland Mall near Smyrna.

The new store is coming to a roughly 2,000 square foot first floor space most recently occupied by Build-A-Bear Workshop. Build-A-Bear is still open in the mall but now operates via a kiosk-like space nearby.  Their former space is essentially in the Costco wing, not far from Macy's.

Pop Mart is a Chinese toy manufacturer and retailer credited with the creation of the viral "blind box" toys that include such characters as "Labubu," a viral sensation in and of itself.

Pop Mart was created in 2010 by millennial entrepreneur Wang Ning, 38.  After taking Pop Mart public on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange in December 2020, Ning became China's tenth richest person as of July 2025 with an estimated net worth of roughly $23 billion, according to Forbes.

Recently, however, his net worth plummeted by almost $6 billion as demand for the latest edition of the company’s Labubu series of dolls seems to be waning in popularity in mainland China, also according to Forbes.

The company, with U.S. headquarters in Glendale, California, currently has forty stores in the U.S. plus another seven "pop up" stores.  The company also operates more than 50 "Robo Shops" via vending machines in malls, shopping centers, and other high traffic locations around the country.

There are currently "Robo Shops" in the south at CoolSprings Galleria in Franklin, a suburb of Nashville, and at Dolphin Mall in Miami.

Are you excited for the opening of Pop Mart in Atlanta?   Do you know what a Labubu is?  What is your all-time favorite toy?

When will this fad run out?

Given the intelligence level of modern society, "probably never" would be your answer. And even if the fad ran out, something even more mindless will undoubtedly replace it.
