[ALERT] Ted's Montana Grill Planned for Marietta Square

A new location of Ted's Montana Grill is being planned for Marietta.  The new restaurant would be constructed in "Goldstein Gap," a roughly .13 acre parcel in the Marietta Square.  The property was previously home to The Cuthbertson Building but has been vacant since the building was razed in 2010.

The property is owned by Marietta family firm Goldstein Properties, which gives the parcel its name.  The firm is run by former Marietta Ward 7 council member Philip M. Goldstein and his son, current Marietta Ward 7 council member Joseph R. Goldstein.  The Goldsteins own several properties on and off the square, but the subject property, 77 North Park Square, is likely most well-known, given that it has been idle for so long.

(Note: Chalktoberfest, a free outdoor festival featuring chalk artists from around the country, takes over the Marietta Square October 11th and 12th.)

The Marietta Historic Board of Review unanimously approved the proposal wherein Ted's plans to construct a 4,311 square foot single-story restaurant that will be 33 feet tall in the front to give the appearance of being two-stories to match neighboring structures including the historic Strand Theatre.

The casual restaurant chain was started by CNN founder and former Atlanta Braves owner Ted Turner and LongHorn Steakhouse founder George McKerrow Jr. in 2002.  The chain had grown to 55 units as of 2010.  Today, the chain includes 38 locations across sixteen states, with Georgia and its eleven units already the chain's largest market by store count.

Cobb County and its three locations (Kennesaw, East Cobb, and West Cobb) is already home to the most Ted's units in the state.  The company previously closed two other Cobb County units on the East West Connector in Austell more than a decade ago and at Cumberland Mall during the pandemic in 2020.

Another new Ted's Montana Grill is coming to Beechwood shopping center on Alps Road in Athens.

Are you excited for the addition of Ted's Montana Grill to the Marietta Square?  What is currently your favorite Marietta Square restaurant?  What kind of restaurants would you most like to see open in Marietta?

Not excited for Ted’s. There is already one 15 minutes away at Avenue on Dallas Highway and another 15 minutes away off Cobb Place Lane in Kennesaw. Not to mention Ted’s is not the same quality it once was. I would prefer something independent in the square. The only recent influx of chain stuff (Jeni’s, Sully’s, 7 Tequilas, etc) make it lose it’s feel to me.

Wow, can't believe this spot has been empty for 15 years. I remember the uproar when they took the building down - sad that its replacement is gonna be something that I'm sure will look like a chain restaurant.

Ate at the one on Peachtree years ago. Was not impressed at all. No desire to try it again.

I’d like a Shoney’s! A slim jim and strawberry pie.

I'm kinda surprised that this chain is expanding. I thought it was a bit of a zombie chain. Alive in some parts, but not really in a growth position.

There are 2 Teds within 10 miles of this location. Everything there has gone downhill - food and service and price doesn’t warrant going anymore. I’ve spoken with management and it’s just excuses. Manager who was at West Cobb was well-known for yelling at customers to leave if they didn’t like their food because he doesn’t give away food. The Square deserves something good, unique, and not mainstream. I wouldn’t hunt for a parking space for Ted’s.

Sucks I was excited for it. A bunch of whiny babies preferring subpar product and subpar service from all these independent businesses. These tiny businesses aren't generating enough money, jobs, or community pull which is why we have this insane homeless population now. Idgaf about a new tiny ice cream shop that hire 5 people that are all their friends, and everyone loves it cuz its "niche " cuz nobody will admit Goldstone is better. This is all about image and not whats good for the community

You’re an idiot. How is Ted’s any better than the “subpar” independent places, as you called them? Ted’s has gone so downhill from what it was. Inferior product for the inflated price. That’s why they’ve closed several. Also, you’re talking about the ice cream place as if it’s independent, when it certainly is not and is one of the chains being equally complained about by the supposed “cry-babies” you mention. You defeat your own argument. You should really inform yourself before you make stupid comments.

Maybe another spin off of Mac's with overpriced and underwhelming food will occupy the space. So everyone can take their Instagram pictures of their $20 drink and $30 entree. Meanwhile you can get a better drink and entree from Ted's for more than 1/2 the price. While Ted's may be a chain, I'd rather patronize them than the likes of Mac's.

Buy I! By all means! Do your best!

Well you have plenty of other Teds nearby luckily. Two others in Marietta, one in Kennesaw, one in West Midtown. All quite close. Go support them.

To 11:50, why don’t you buy it? Or write to Ted’s and beg them to reconsider? You can also support one of the many Ted’s around, there are after all already two j. Marietta and one in Kennesaw all very close, ya know! Go give them your money!
