Atlanta-based Southern Proper Hospitality Group has in recent days closed several restaurants including 40 per cent of its Tin Lizzy's brand. The closures, most of which took place this week, included a total of five locations across four brands.
Following the closure of these and others previously, including those in Buford, Grant Park, Duluth, Emory Point and Buckhead, Tin Lizzy's will have just three locations: Downtown Atlanta (Peachtree Center), Midtown (77 12th) and Kennesaw.
The group also closed Chido & Padre’s and The Blind Pig, sibling concepts in Buckhead which shared a freestanding building at 128 East Andrews Drive. Chidos & Padre's, a "Baja-style" concept, debuted in March 2018 when it replaced barbecue concept Smokebelly, also owned by Southern Proper, which had closed earlier that January. The Blind Pig, a speakeasy, had operated during both restaurants' tenures.
ToNeTo Atlanta was provided the following statement from a representative of the restaurant group regarding the closures:
"Southern Proper Hospitality Group has made the difficult decision to close several of our concepts, including Tin Lizzy’s Perimeter, Tin Lizzy’s East Cobb, Chido & Padre’s, and The Blind Pig. These restaurants have been meaningful parts of their neighborhoods, and we’re deeply grateful for everyone who has been part of them — our team members and the guests and communities who’ve supported them over the years.
We’re staying closely connected with our team members and supporting them as they explore roles within our other SPHG restaurants. While these locations are closing, some of our concepts — like The Blind Pig — have always been built on creativity and flexibility, and we’ll continue to evaluate how they may evolve within our portfolio over time.
We continue to welcome guests at our remaining restaurants across Atlanta and remain committed to delivering the hospitality and experiences our company is known for."
The group's remaining Atlanta area restaurants include the three aforementioned Tin Lizzy's as well as Gypsy Kitchen, The Southern Gentleman and The Big Ketch in Buckhead, Ocean & Acre in Alpharetta and Milton's in Milton. The group also operates a single location of Gypsy Kitchen in Washington D.C.
Are you surprised by which concepts and locations Southern Proper decided to close? What is your favorite Southern Proper concept?

the food at the east cobb location was really bad. I'm not sure if it always was like this. But we went twice the last couple years. Not good.
Their chips are fire!
