[ALERT] Whimsical Restaurant Falling Rabbit Done in Duluth After Five Years

Upscale restaurant Falling Rabbit has closed after a five year run in downtown Duluth.  Located at 3580 West Lawrenceville Street in Parson's Alley, the restaurant debuted in November 2020 and closed as of January 1, according to posts made to the restaurant's official social pages.

Chef Chuck Woods and his wife Barbara "Babs" both worked in high end restaurants in Chicago before relocating to Duluth in 2019.  According to Gwinnett County property records, the couple partnered with "RR GA FINANCING, LLC" to purchase the .05 acre property and accompanying roughly 3,500 square foot building the restaurant occupied in September 2019 for $1 million.

Falling Rabbit's opening was originally planned for early 2020 but was delayed to late 2020 due to the pandemic, among other factors.  The Woods explained the inspiration for the restaurant here.

The cozy restaurant featured a whimsical theme, creative cocktail program and rotating tasting menu but seemingly never got the wide Atlanta area attention or regional recognition it needed to remain in business.  Falling Rabbit did, however, have a respectable 4.6 star rating on Google with 850 reviews.

This message was posted to the restaurant's Facebook and Instagram pages.

"We are deeply grateful to every guest who chose to dine with us - who trusted us with your evenings, your celebrations, and your time

And to our incredible team, whose dedication, creativity and care bought this space to life each day, we thank you beyond words.

It has been an honor to serve you and to share so many meaningful moments together."

It remains  to be seen what may be planned for the former Falling Rabbit space.

Elsewhere in Parson's Alley, the former Nacho Daddy's space reopened in December as metro Atlanta's eleventh location of Rreal Tacos.

Are you surprised to see Falling Rabbit close in downtown Duluth?  What would you like to see open in place of Falling Rabbit?  What is your favorite Duluth area restaurant?

I was there a few weeks ago and compared to previous visits, it appeared that the rabbit had indeed fell. Too bad, it was a special place in its prime.

I actually wanted to get out there to try it but it’s just too far. These types of places need more sophisticated palettes to support them and I’m not sure it exists at that level deep in the burbs.

When they changed to a limited fixed 4 course menu with few choices I thought the writing was on the wall. We went there a few times and always enjoyed it. It was a beautiful space too.

Sorry, we don't do chicken strips or hookah out here in the burbs.

My 2 closest friends both own and operate successful restaurants. Both Mexican and French. Long term restaurants and still in the original locations. Seems location is very critical to successful restaurants survival
So many good restaurants have choosen poor locations or poor or goofy names that do little for long term success.

I thought I read on this blog that Raising Canes is opening in “the burbs” and already there is Zaxbys. Do they not sell chicken strips at the suburban locations? Oh and I do smell pot in the parking lots at all sorts of stores in “the burbs.” Is that better than hookah? Or worse?

I agree. It's sad for someone to go out of business, but why would anyone think "Fallen Rabbit" is a name that would inspire appetites or attract visitors?

What existing restaurant names inspire appetites and attract visitors?

A shame. We really liked the place, but the menu had gotten so small and practically everything had mushrooms in it, which not everyone can eat. It made for an awkward gathering with some friends there that could basically eat nothing they had. Didn’t go back after that.

Apparently "Hooters".
