[ALERT] Local Restaurant Guru to Open New Southern Comfort Food Eatery in Dunwoody

Casual steakhouse Steak & Grace abruptly closed January 22 after about ten months in business in Dunwoody.  The restaurant, opened and operated by Barry Mills of Big B's Fish Joint in Chastain Park, seemingly never caught on and Mills was able to sell the business.

News trickled out that the new owner planned to reconcept the 3,500 square foot restaurant and reopen it in April.  Given its location, our immediate thought was that David Abes, aka "Mr. Funwoody," was the likely buyer.  We messaged Abes Friday evening and didn't get a response of any kind, which only increased our belief.

Our suspicions were confirmed Saturday when The Aha! Connection, a local Dunwoody publication, reported that Abes was in fact the mystery buyer behind the Steak & Grace purchase.

According to Aha!, the new concept already has a name - Stable - and a cuisine, Southern.

When we contacted late Saturday, Abes confirmed the news and name, adding that it will be spelled {S}table, feature Southern comfort food, and plans to offer Sunday brunch, too.

While Abes and his team are no doubt still fine-tuning the concept and menu, the bits we do know should be welcome news to the many neighbors yearning for such fare in the 10+ years since the beloved Old Hickory House closed.

Abes, a veteran of both Here to Serve Restaurants and Buckhead Life Restaurant Group, opened his first Dunwoody Village establishment Bar{n} booze {n} bites in November 2021, which started what is now DASH Hospitality Group.  In the years since, he has added several other concepts to the area he has since christened "Funwoody," including Morty's Meat & Supply, Message In A Bottle, and most recently, Good Vibes ice cream and soda pop shop.

Yoffi, a casual Mediterranean eatery which had operated from the stationary food truck in the center, was recently retired as a  standalone concept but several of its most popular items were previously added to the menus of the other restaurants.

Are you excited at the prospect of having a new southern comfort food eatery in Dunwoody?   What is currently your favorite restaurant in Dunwoody?  What kind of restaurant would you most like to see open in Dunwoody?

Please share your thoughts below.

I think Southern Comfort food will be welcomed in Dunwoody. My fave restaurant there is Novo Cucina

Something tells me that bringing up Old Hickory House as a comparable is not something the team at {S}table is hoping for!

Loose the { }. Awkward restaurant names add mystique, but not the type of mystique that attracts customers!

Grits should be on every menu. If you don’t like grits go back up north. We don’t need you.

Don’t forget the fried okra and hush puppies.

Or maybe they should 'tighten' it up and add parentheses instead.

The term "Funwoody" was not "Christened" by this gentlemen. Those of us who grew up and lived here all our lives have always called it Funwoody for decades.

Funwoody is what all Dunwoodians reference Dunwoody as. We have for decades. This guy didn't coin the phrase

Always a negative. Any jack wad can do that.
