[ALERT] Unkie's Pizza + Bar to Debut Soon in Brookhaven

A new restaurant called Unkie's Pizza+Bar is coming soon to Brookhaven.  The pizza shop is opening at 3400 Clairmont Road, Suite A, in the Skyland shopping center.  Unkie's replaces The Greek Pizzeria & Gyros which closed in the 2,000 square foot space in December after about four years in business.

(The Greek owner Johnny Gianoulidis and managing partner Paul Masci continue to operate ParkGrounds in Reynoldstown and Kafenio in Avondale Estates.)

Business partners Richard Gazaway and Michael Colombo are behind the forthcoming Brookhaven pizza shop.  Gazaway, a resident of nearby Chamblee, spent nineteen years as general manager of Vintage Pizzeria on Peachtree Road in Chamblee before leaving last April.  Colombo was an employee of his who has since entered an unrelated field.  The two are partners in the business, but Gazaway will run the day-to-day operations.

The duo enlisted the help of Atlanta's Methane Studios to create the restaurant's "vibe," aka the theme, logo, and voice.  One thing is for sure, the shop is "not your father's pizza place."

According to Gazaway, the plan is to open in phases, with phase one likely in mid-to-late February and phase two in early April.  As with anything involving the government, timelines are subject to change.

Phase one would include an initial "soft launch" of New York-style pizza and salads.

The second phase would introduce a wider variety to the menu and as well as their bar program and enhanced patio area.  Plans call for a Chicago deep dish special as well as assorted appetizers, sandwiches, a smashburger, and hand-cut French fries.  Unkie's also plans to offer some unexpected items that the partners have "tested" at popups and received rave reviews on, such as a butter chicken cheesesteak and Korean BBQ eggrolls with chicken sausage.

The pizza shop will benefit from superior visibility as it's located on the endcap of the center, adjacent to a freestanding Smoothie King, and near the intersection of Clairmont and Buford Highway.

Are you excited for the return of pizza to Skyland shopping center?  What is currently your favorite pizza shop in metro Atlanta?  What kind of restaurant would you most like to see open in Brookhaven?

  4. Why do businesses seem to go out of their way to come up with stupid names now?

    1. It’s a family name. You hoped for something more traditional like Fuddruckers?

    2. Doesn’t seem to be a family name of any of the people involved, does it? Fuddrucker’s was a dumb name too.

So maybe “Anonymous” is right, but at least my son has the courage and determination to take a risk and “leap of faith” on a dream he has had for a long time. The “flip side” is it is a recipe for epic success, because he has done his homework and is putting his “blood, sweat and tears” into this adventure. I hope all you good folks will help him make this an “epic” success!

    2. I'm excited to give this a chance. As a former New Yorker I have high standards for my pizza and we just don't have any good pizza that's around this neighborhood. I usually have to drive to Oz pizza in East lake or settle for something mediocre. I'm looking forward to it. If it's good I'll be there regularly!
