[EXCLUSIVE] Arby's Shutters Longstanding Intown Atlanta Restaurant

Another day, another Arby's closure in metro Atlanta.  This time, it's the Arby's at 2382 North Druid Hills Road in Brookhaven.  The restaurant was already low on stock as of Saturday, as it was due to close for good as of Sunday night, March 22.

DeKalb County tax records indicate that the roughly 2,900 square foot freestanding building on North Druid Hills Road sits on nearly 1.3 acres and was built in 1977.  The Druid Hills Arby's once featured both T.J. Cinnamons and Market Fresh sandwich offerings, but phased out both long ago.

It's unclear what will become of the Arby's property, but an adjacent assemblage - including the former Tin Roof Cantina, former oil change facility, and former shopping center that was home to Cafe Bombay - was recently demolished to make way for "Manor Druid Hills," a large mixed-use development that is expected to bring hundreds of new apartments and a limited service hotel to the area.  A former self-serve car wash that was located beside the Arby's is actively being marketed for sale as a "construction-ready pad site" suitable for a 59,900 square foot, four story medical office building.

ToNeTo Atlanta reported in February that Arby's had closed units in East Cobb, Duluth, and Emerson.

Arby's, owned by Sandy Springs-based Inspire Brands, has seen several metro Atlanta units close in recent years, including those in Roswell, Alpharetta, Albany, Milton, Buford, Chamblee, Sandy Springs, downtown Atlanta, Buckhead (Chastain Park), and Suwanee.

The latest closures come on the heels of those in Marietta along Cobb Parkway this past November, and in Chamblee along Peachtree Boulevard this past December.

In years past, Arby's have also closed on Spring Street in midtown, Vaughn Road in Kennesaw, South Cobb Drive in Smyrna, Metropolitan Parkway in Atlanta, and LaVista Road in Tucker, as well as food court locations in Northlake Mall in Tucker and Lenox Square in Buckhead, among others.

ToNeTo Atlanta reported in October 2024 that Arby's had closed its longstanding restaurant on Roswell and Wieuca Roads in Chastain Park.  This past June we reported that a new location of Fifth Third Bank is planned in its place, with actual renovation work having only recently started.

Despite all the closures, the company and its franchisees continue to operate about 3,400 restaurants worldwide.

Remaining Atlanta area units include those on Howell Mill Road in Atlanta, Hammond Drive in Sandy Springs, State Bridge Road in Johns Creek, and Scenic Highway in Snellville.

Are you surprised to see so many Arby's close across metro Atlanta?  What would you like to see open in place of shuttered Arby's?  What is your favorite quick-serve restaurant (QSR)?

  1. Oh man! This was the one I grew up going to, and my mom still went there pretty recently - I'll have to break the news to her! I haven't been by the area recently. With all of those other nearby buildings having been demolished, I think I'd be surprised to see how the area is looking now...

  2. If you want a real blast from the past, take a look at the former Arby's on Clairmont Rd just north of the VA Hospital. It still has the original architecture and has been a very successful coffee stop for quite a while.

  3. The closure was inevitable after the “incident.”

  4. Hell, at the rate they're going, they might as well go ahead and shut all of them down and turn off the lights. Pretty crappy, Arby's is my favorite QSR.

  6. I have to wonder, are all of Inspire Brands restaurants suffering (I highly doubt it) Why can't they get their act together with Arby's?

  7. This seems to be more about what is going on with the land there and less about Arby’s. I wouldn’t be surprised if Lens Crafters (former Coco’s, former Opti World) is next to go. Chick-fil -a is likely safe, but who knows??

  8. Am I the only one that thinks the potential is here for a Trader Joe’s? There’s not really a grocery store nearby except toco hills. Plus with all those apartments nearby I think Trader Joe’s would fill a real demand. Let’s make it happen.

  9. Didn't know about the location on Clairmont as an Arby's. Before my time I guess. I remember it as Athens Pizza Express, before it became many other things, in particular Heirloom BBQ. That I miss.

  10. Another part of my youth has died. I worked there for a summer in the late 70's, I had to get there at 6:30am to start the beef in the oven and then clean. Fun place to work for a HS kid. I had great memories of that Arby's.

    1. I worked at a now long gone Arby’s on Peachtree Road in the heart of Buckhead when I was in high school back in the ‘70s. We had gone to the one on North Druid Hills for several years and will miss it. That said, the line was never long and there hadn’t been any crowd at all there since Covid. Therefore, I’m not surprised it closed.
