Sublime Doughnuts has closed its location on Briarcliff Road in Brookhaven. The doughnut and ice cream shop opened at the Village at Druid Hills (2566 Briarcliff Road) in April 2016 and closed permanently as of Sunday, March 15, according to source familiar with the closure.
The first, and now only, Sublime which is on 10th Street near Georgia Tech, remains open. Founder Kamal Grant opened the 10th Street location in 2008, and in addition to the Druid Hills outpost, planned to open another location in Sandy Springs, but after several delays, that location was ultimately abandoned.
Grant proudly encourages patrons to "eat one that's worth it." For a time, Sublime was open 24 hours a day to be available to patrons whenever the munchies hit.
In our visit to the Druid Hills Sublime we also discovered that Mediterranean franchise Hummus Republic had closed. Hummus Republic entered the state when it opened in the center in June 2023 in place of what had originally been Penn Station East Coast Subs.
Sources in the center indicate that Hummus Republic closed quietly earlier this year. (Locations of the California-based chain have also recently closed in Lawrenceville and Loganville, while one location in the state remains open in Roswell.)
The expansion of the Children's Healthcare of Atlanta campus, opening of the new Ronald McDonald House, and expansion of Emory Healthcare in nearby Executive Park will likely make both the Sublime space (1,387 square feet) and the Hummus Republic space (1,479 square feet) appealing to restaurant operations looking to open in the area.
The Village at Druid Hills is home to both Willy's Mexicana Grill and Howlin' Willy's Hot Chicken, as well as Tropical Smoothie Cafe, Tin Drum Asia Cafe, and Smallcakes. Popular Ethiopian eatery Desta relocated in 2025 to the old Newk's Eatery space and Bank of America relocated last year to the outparcel building originally home to Mattress Firm.
Are you surprised to see Sublime Doughnuts close in Brookhaven? What would you most like to see open in place of Sublime and Hummus Republic? What is currently your favorite eatery in the area?
