The Buckhead location of Cupcakin' Bake Shop has closed after about seventeen months in business. The cupcake shop, located at 2221 Peachtree Road, occupied a 1,350 square foot space in The Shops of Buckhead, a two-level strip center in south Buckhead.
Owens expanded the business to metro Atlanta in December 2023 with a shop at Colony Square in Midtown. The Buckhead location, where permits were filed in May 2022, did not open until January 2025, despite it having replaced Cami Cakes, another cupcake shop. Permits filed with the City of Atlanta indicate Owens spent at least $100,000 building out the space to suit her needs. It's unclear what took so long to get the shop open but it's crazy to consider it was "coming soon" for essentially a year longer than it was in business.
"Thank you for your support this last year. We have made the tough decision to close our Buckhead location due to rising costs and poor store performance. A bitter sweet ending," read a May 21 Instagram post announcing the closure.
Cupcakin' had a respectable 4.5 star rating on Google but only received 32 reviews which could be an indication of the low traffic the shop saw.
Following the Buckhead closure, the Colony Square outpost remains open as do five locations in the Berkeley/San Francisco area.
Did you ever go to Cupcakin' in Buckhead? Who in metro Atlanta do you think makes the best cupcake? What would you like to see open in place of the former Cupcakin' in Buckhead?

Never even heard of it but that is crazy!
Honestly some of the best cupcakes I've ever had. Very expensive, so definitely not even a weekly splurge - not surprised it's hard to maintain that as a business model - but unfortunate since seriously, those cupcakes....worth a visit to Colony Sq.
Cupcakes are dead. Colony square will be closing soon. They are going on beyond the dead cupcake trend 📉 ... Knock knock ... Who's there? Dead cupcake trend ... Dead cupcake trend who? "Flatline sound" ... The end 🔚
Rising costs. Translation, Trump inflation. The Trump inflation from the Trump virus, Trump tariffs, Trump war in Iran, has killed off so many small businesses. An absolute tragedy.
Speaking as a conservative, you are absolutely on point with this. And the worst part? He doesn't care at all.
